I was struck by the strange form of this mushroom and was wondering if any of you shroom enthusiasts could shed some light on it. sorry for my hands being in the pics. i didnt eat it, these pics are all that i have of it.

Looks like an older shroom that has been drying up in place and is
probably a member of the trich or cort or laccaria family all which have purple gilled members.
Really not identifiable in this stage.
Still a nice picture though.

it was very cool....i dont know if the pic does it justice but it had a very nice purple coloration. it seemed pretty fresh when i picked it. it wasnt dry, although like you say it might have been old. there were a few others like it and they all had the same strange curling/splitting of their caps.

Where bouts did you pick it? I only ask because we have an 80 acer farm with a storage shed where we use to put chemicals & fertalizers. I have seen some monster deformed shrooms by the shed. JUst curious if this was natural or a mad science experiment?

kind of like in a wooded park in an older subdivision. as far as i know, no toxic ground, but you never know. thank you for the information! ;)
