i need some help on what to do here
i hit something today dunno what it was. drove the boat back to the ramp with no "noticeable" problem. got it out of the water & saw that all 3 blades were bent on the ends, some look to have been filed flat on the end.
what to do!!? without dropping a couple hundy on a new one.
can i get mine repaired? cheap?
does anyone have one?
where do i find the size & pitch?
its a 96 mariner 115 efi.
is there anything i need to look out for if i buy a used one?
is there anything i need to check & or replace while i got it off??
thanx in advance guys!!!

Aluminum prop? Easy fix. Might set you back $5 or so depending on how much welding they have to do. Aluminum props are easy to fix... and the prop shop will know what pitch, diamter, etc... the prop should be simply by looking at the numbers stamped on the hub. Easy fix. It will even be painted a nice new looking black when you get it back!
I just had my prop repaired for the same reason. One blade missing a 1" square chunk. Both other blades bent pretty good. Cost me $40 to have it fixed.

Not really. Just be careful not to cut your hand when you wrench on the nut. I put a chunk of 2x4 between the prop and the cavitation plate.

Bolo,
Since your going to have the prop off make sure these is no fishing line or anything wrapped around the prop shaft.

If it shifts fine, nothing is dripping out of it in the trimmed down position, chances are you did no damage to the lower unit. How does the skeg look (the long fin below the bullet on the lower unit)??? If it's not all banged up or bent you should be fine. You could put the motor in neutral and turn the prop shaft by hand to see if you bent it, but you probably won't be albe to tell without a gauge. If you can actually see that it's out of round, then have it looked at by a pro.
But, with an aluminum prop and the fact that you didn't notice any bad vibrations or anything, you should be fine. Have the prop fixed and go fishing!!
Stainless props tend to do more damage to lower units after bottom strikes than aluminum ones do... aluminum bends and gives, stainless doesn't.

the aluminum prop is bent, how is it bent back?
Heated? pounded?
The same thing happened to me on the Grand yesterday, no chucks missing, but bent.
thanks in advance

I have welded many props then ground them to origonal shape .if they are not bent you will be ok. but if they are bent you will have to take it to a prop shop and have the pitch reset.the cost varys a lot sometimes it is just as cheap to buy a rebuilt one. you really want to make sure the rubber in the prop is in really good shape ;)

If you don't have time to run it to Lockeman's (I hate going through some of those neighborhoods to get there) we have that Michigan Propeller on Southfield in town here. I bought a prop from them for my old Johnson, when I owned it, and got one of the better prices that I found for it. It wasn't cheap since it was so old but still cheaper than anyone else could do. Besides, it's close.

The replacement prop for my 50 Merc is $155!! I couldn't believe it when I priced it out. Somewhat of an ugly duckling I guess. Fixing it was much cheaper.
