deer butchering tip (posted this on whitetail deer hunting forum but it may be more appropiate here)

Most of you that do your own butchering either use a saw or bone out the deer. Besides sharpening your knives frequently during butchering I have a tip that may help prevent those pesky cuts on the hands when your trying to get off that little piece of fat or the slime or sheath covering. You may have one of these if your a fisherman or may be using it already.
What is it? You ask? Well it’s the fillet glove. Sold in the fishing department, I’ve been using one for the last three years and havn’t had a cut on my hand since. It helps you grip the meat easier and prevents knife cuts. I like to wear a latex glove under it to keep my hand warm and dry.
Try it you’ll like it!

Good luck to all hunting.

Sargent,

Good idea. We always use the "gutting gloves" - the long plastic ones that keep clothes from getting so much blood on them, but a sharp knife can cut hands - particularly when reaching in to cut the esophigus(sp?).

Thanks for the tip.
