O.K., any of you ever fished for 'em? BIL wants to try for some in CO. Only a 15-20 acre lk., knows 0 about depth, temps, cover. I'm inclined to think towards jigs, raps, or any other body baits. Any knowledgeable suggestions?

Surface baits like the origonal Zara Spook are usually good for them at dawn and dusk. They are some serious fighters, even tougher than smallies. Must be the striper side of them cause it sure aint the white bass part. LOL

I've caught stripers and whites, with both being the parents for wipers. I know wipers can grow to 20 pounds. I can't imagine what a 20 pound white bass (or anything related to it) would be like on the end of a line, but its gotta be worth the trip if you only catch one by accident. :yikes: :tdo12:

I've caught them many times, My brother is a fish farmer and used to raise them. Anything that looks like a pellet worked, heck for that matter anything that hit the water worked. Not the info you are looking for, I know. They are fighters though. He had them up to 5-6 pounds and they were a blast to catch.

they are usually open water fish and you will find them suspending around the thermocline they do like current below dams also. Good baits to try are trolling smaller stick baits, leadheads w/ white twister tails, road runners, smaller spinner baits. Casting same lures and any other shad imitator including rat-l-traps.

In the mornings look for them on top water attacking shad or baitfish as a school. Toss a pop-r, chug bug or small spook into the foray and you will get bit.

good luck

Thanks guys! Every bit helps. Wasn't sure how big they got, but I'm sure BIL will have to do some rod/reel/lure shopping. Probably hasn't caught a fish in 30+yrs. I just knew that there would be some on this board that would have the info I was looking for :grouphug: .
