Not a big issue I don't think. I drove it to lunch today, not raining, ran just fine. Got in it late tonight to go home from work... raining and now the ABS and Brake warning lights are on. I saw this once before years ago but can't remember what the cause was.

Truck stops just fine.

Any ideas???

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder. If the fluid gets low the red light comes on, then the ABS light comes on.

Wht does this question have to do with boats and boat riggings?

Can't pull a boat with no brakes!

I know on the Fords, if you start the truck up and put it into gear to quickly, it sets off an abs error and the light will come on. Usually the next time you start it, or at least in the next couple of starts, the light will go off. Not sure if the Dodges do similar things, but maybe?

I have an 02 and either I don't have abs or they've never worked since I tested it to avoid running over a car. I hate abs.

I once asked the "powers that be" to add a tow vehicle section and was told that most vehicle questions are answered here in this section... so this is where I put my question!

I tried the turn it on, turn it off, on, off, on, off, etc.... and that didn't get the lights out. Still on this morning when I drove to work. Fluid level is fine and I am not dripping anything anywhere.

Just talked to the dealer... they think it's a bad sensor if both lights are on. Screws into the rear differential. I'll have to look at it after work.

Don't you just love Sensors!? I mean we have sensors that keep an eye on sensors!
Why is it that the part(s) that the sensor is supposed to keep an eye on never goes bad, but the sensors always do?

If both lights are on and neither will "reset" when you cycle the key then you do have a "hard fault" problem. In questionable conditions and if traction is lost the system can be tricked into thinking there's a problem but will test itself on the next key cycle. The sensors in the rear diff are a common ABS issue.

What year is it and how many miles do you have on it? Sometimes along with a new sensor a rear diff service is in order. Hope that's all it is. The brakes at this time should not feel bad or malfunction. The base brakes are uneffected by this "fault". The only system effected is the ABS which unless you are in a situation calling for ABS activation you'd never know you had it! BTW when the ABS/Brake lights are on your ABS is de-activated.

BTW - which dealer in GR did you call? I'd recommend either Highland Chrysler or K&M Northfield Dodge.........

Good Luck! :)

1998 Ram pickup 4x4, 5.9L with 144,000 plus miles on it. I called Elhart in Holland since they are just down the road from where I work.

I had the tranny rebuilt 4000 miles ago.
Had the rear end rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago, everything but the pinion gear basically. So I'm guessing I need a new sensor in the rear end and then have the computer errors erased.
