It seems that lately, there have been many posts that are meant to put other hunters down or seem to be from someone needing attention. Why? I dont remember so many worthless posts being here before now..... Interesting......

couldn't agree more hunter, I think it is just because we all have a lot of passion for our preferred ways of hunting. Sometimes like trout said we just don't word it right. All in all the passion that we all feel is what makes the opinions here so valuable, so hopefully we can be a tolerant group, and help each other out in their preferred methods.

i've said it before and I'll say it again, I've become a lot better hunter with the advice of the people on here, and a lot of times new things to thing about that I never would have before, for example, taking of button bucks. let's not become like some of the other sites and put each other down. let's help each other and share our experiences.

Hunter, I have only been on this site about two weeks and have seen a large number of negative posts also. Guess it's basic human nature to put others down to make you feel better because you are not getting the attention anywhere else, which means you answered your question. In any event, I agree with the others that there are better ways to express your opinion. Reminds me of an email a while ago concerning office etiquette where appropriate phrases were used in place of negative phrases. For example, instead of saying "he has his head up his a__", try saying "he might not be clear on the issues". The other concern is that you know the animal rights activists are reviewing this site as they have already been logged onto and registered on the Michigan Hunting and Fishing site back in March. We need to show that we are a group united. Just my opinion.

I also have noticed a sharper edge to the posts & agree that we need to be more tolerant & perhaps more diplomatic. I enjoy healthy debate as much as anyone but we need to keep it healthy not hurtful.

Guess I will have to check out the stats on the person posting, they could be here once and are trying to stir things up!

I think part of the problem with the sharper edges that we're seeing is the increase in numbers. There're 811 registrants now. And have you noticed that sometimes even tolerant people tend to be a little untolerant when they're pushed. I agree that diplomacy needs to be practiced, but when there's no face to face contact some statements are taken in an other tone than they were sent. We can all try hard to be civil though. It's been great for the most part so far on this site.

I'm probably guilty of jumping on a couple people with both feet. I take strong issue with the attitude of "bowhunters...gunhunters...duckhunters...etc, etc are not real sportsman like I am". You guys are right. A forum like this is a valuable place for those of us who love the outdoors to learn from each other. I've been at this a long time and am a firm believer in the old saying "the more I learn the less I realize I know." I'm pretty new here and I apologize if anything I've posted was too negative. I think we should look to set an example with our ability to discuss differences of opinion in a civil manner. This is a good place and I will do my best to live up to that ideal.

I frankly prefer some disagreement on the forum. It wouldn't be any fun if we all agreed that the .30-06 is the best deer cartridge, for instance.
With that in mind, a good, healthy debate is one thing...... but there is a fine-line between politely disagreeing and an outright uncivil post.
Hopefully, folks are able to decipher and differentiate between the two. Derogatory remarks are best ignored by all; usually this makes the instigator go away.
I've been involved with several forums (I even helped get another one up and running) and there will always be some inconsiderate jerk who infiltrates just to inflame others.
A friend at work steered me over to this site. He'd been telling me about it for months and I already spend too much time on other forums, so I never checked this site out. I must say that I AM IMPRESSED!
There is a really nice, diverse atmoshpere here..... and alot of helpful people!

I have came to the same realization as many of you have posted too. I have been guilty of jumping a little hard too but I am going to change my ways. I'm sticking to answering the law questions I can answer and leave it at that. I sometimes wish I had just registered as a hunter but I wanted to help other hunters about the laws. I guess I'll keep it at just that, help others not make a mistake. That way users won't think it's a DNR opinion about hunting when it my opinion. Hopefully, good will and good conversation will be more evident in the future.

Boehr, I do not think you ever come off as "jumping" in or on anyone. Your posts are consistently the most temperate, civil, and frankly, educational on the board.
Keep it up please.

Awwww, don't be too hard on yourself, boehr. You do contribute alot of worth-while advice/info to the forum..... even if some of it is wrong. :)
Seriously: Opinions are like.... well, you know what. Everybody's got one, and as long as we respect others point of view, this will continue to be a great forum.
TRUST ME when I say that forums can get very stale without a certain amount of healthy debate and disgreement going on. Topics such as, "What is your favorite pattern of plaid to wear?" type posts get real old real quick.
Lets all keep it up..... and remember to keep it civil. We're here to have fun!

I agree Yooper, whenever you get 860 people together, even 860 people that share common interests, your gonna get conflicting opinions. And as long as they don't get personal, I think different views make the discussions more interesting. If everyone was the same, the world would be a boring place. One of the phrases that does get under my skin is, "I think that we'd all agree,.....". 860 people aren't even gonna agree that the sun rises in the East. So I try and be open minded, and realize that everyone has different reasons for hunting/fishing. Also, some people aren't happy unless they're unhappy.

I've also noticed that some people submit the same post twice. Just to make happy people unhappy. Steve, please delete one of them, plus this post. Thanks, Scott.

I think that debate is one thing but when someone is attacked for their typing skills, that is a little nuts. I hope we can all learn to communicte in an affective way. thaks for the replies everyone!!

I agree with everyone. (no I'm not a politician) All of the things said were accurate and well written. Lets kick everyone else off!
Just kidding. It needs to be stressed many times that disagreement creates a learning environment, but argumentation creates a hostile environment. We need to be passionate about the way we do what we do. That passion makes us good. I've found over the years that I was passionately wrong before. Then having learned what was really true I was passionate about the new situation too. If I had been argumentative, it's very likely that I would not have paid attention to the error warning.
Not to worry I've been argumentative on tons of occasions. Thats why I know so much about it.
Maybe no one has explained to the newer members that part of the draw here, is the fact that we have developed a comfort zone here. One that is so comfortable, that people are willing to admit errors that they know will appall some of us. If they get jumped on that comfort would stop and they would never get the feedback and (positive) peer pressure they need to make the changes in their lives.
This is a great site, lets all live up the the standards set by guys like Steve and Boehr and Trout.

Guys,
I've been off the forums for a month mostly because of the election and the derision that got cast on FL because of the counts and recounts.
It got ugly and perhaps I was the biggest wallflower of the bunch. I apologize because this is a great site and it allows all of us to come together and discuss, learn, teach, debate and even argue.
Yes, I'm not a resident, but I pay taxes in MI and have for over 50 years. I pay the outrageous fees for non-resident licences just as you all do when you come to FL. We all suffer the same indignities at times and I don't care because we are all one at some time or another and it's usually often.
My family and I love your state and will do our damndest to support anything positive for hunting and fishing.
We're a part of you, just as you are a part of us. All of our opinions might be different, but our underlying interests are the same and there is where we come together.
Do it.

Just as a suggestion, thinking of my own foibles. How about just asking the guy in a nice manner if he meant to be krass?
I know I can get wound up in the moment occaisionally, and rip some moron...oops "Confused" person a new one without even thinking about it,or the ramifications, understanding fully that if I need it someone will provide me with the kiwi injection.Kinda base really, but that's me.So..if I get outta hand my E-mail is listed, and I would appreciate it as I don't wish to offend anyone but greasy politicians, antihunters and their ilk, certainly no one civil enough to hang out here. :)Maybe an E-mail addy could be required to be displayed under stats?
I dunno.Just thoughts.Cheers!Pat
