Eaglerock Kennels has specialized in training and breeding quality grouse dogs for the past 35 years. We aim to please the most demanding grouse hunters. We have good grouse and woodcock numbers here this year, and our training grounds are second to none. We can get your dog into a lot of wild birds, and prepare him to be a good hunting companion for you. We offer complete training services. We have several nice English setter puppies and started dogs for sale now that have extraordinary potential. Their parents, grandparents, greatgrandparents and more are excellent grouse dogs...fully finished, very nice disposition, and great style moving and on point. Did you think to maybe contact an administrator of this site and pay for advertising?

:yeahthat: You should also fill out a profile so other members can see where you are located without checking your website. It is a little odd that your first post is a big plug for your commercial enterprise but heck, I would probably be interested in some training. Welcome to the site, I am sure you will be able to provide a lot of useful contributions. It is always nice to see new members sign on.:Welcome:

and Mr John Yates is pretty well known in the Coverdog trial arena, at least out east. Also has his own forums "Dog on Point" I think, hasn't been a lot of activity there in a couple years but a lot of good info when I checked it out a couple years ago when I was getting into trialing.
Someone said he used to be a newspaper editor I think way back although I never met him. Alot of people have commented on the quality of his dogs & alot of "Sunrise blood" I believe.
How did I do John ? Do look forward to meeting you someday, this fall at the Grand National maybe.

I think you have to have 100 posts before advertising here

I would like to thank everyone who responded to my post, including those who criticized the commercial aspect of my post. I offer two things in explanation.

First, I initially tried to post a paid classified, but this site has no form that I could find to do this. There was no rate shet or section on how to pay. Thus, I posted in this section.

To be honest, my posting here was a way to "test the waters" of this site's advertising potential. A problem with Internet advertising is that there are many, many sites on the web, but most of them do not have a lot of traffic from potential customers. Spending $10 or $20 for a classified ad sounds insignificant, but those small expenses tend to add up quickly and suddenly I find myself training dogs to pay for advertising, rather than for my own living expenses. I make all of my living from bird dogs, and I have to spend my money wisely. Being small, there is a limit to growth, because I can work only so many dogs. My advertising dollars are used to "stay even" on business, to try to sell the puppies I have and to keep the training kennel close to capacity.

To be honest again, fall and winter are the slow times for northern dog trainers. People are hunting their dogs then, and often don't really think much about hunting over the winter. But I still have to eat between now and spring, so this time of the year I try to make good use of "free advertising" in any form I can find. Dog training is rather cyclical. From June until August, northern dog trainers are turning away dogs because they are full. But from November through Febraury, they need dogs to work just to survive.

Because of this, dog trainers may push the boundaries of "spam" a bit on sites like this...and I suppose I can only plead "guilty as charged." Yet I also hope that I can provide assistance and needed information to those who use this site. Hopefully it will make a good horsetrade.

Thank you for the kind words, Wally. I will be in Michigan this fall for the championships, running dogs and reporting the Lakestates. I sometimes train in northern Michigan, too, and many of my best customers have been from your state (I live in PA). I hope to run into you at Gladwin!

Here is the URL for the Dog on Point training board, which I co-moderate. It is designed to be helpful topeople who have hunting dogs.

Welcome to the sight. From my perspective your answers are great. Any body with a boat full of knowlege is welcome here. We all tend to bow to a few around this site, Backwoods, Coverdog, ect....

One thing to remember though, there are no Grouse in MI - I shot these birds over my Lab in Ontartio. Who knew you could hunt grouse with labs?

Tell us more about your training operation? Are you just a cover dog man?

As a side note, watch out for that Wally guy he has a couple up and commers in this Cover Dog game!

Mr Yates
I understand completely, there is a pretty good group here and I probably spend too much time here.
Don't listen to Steelheadfred, I'm new to coverdog trialing and try to soak up all the knowledge I can get.
Welcome to the site.
