Just found out that the transom is rotten in my Lund Pro-V 1775. It's too big of a job for me to do myself, and the place I usually deal with can't do it. Anybody have any suggestions for someone in SE Michigan to tackle the job? Thanks.

Check out PGA marine & collision or Glassmasters
Thanks. They both look like they specialize in fiberglass. This is an aluminum boat, do you know if they work on aluminum?

Know a guy who works out of his home who did an excellent job on the rebuild of a transon on my aluminum 18'. Can give you his number if you are interested or the Glassmaster quote is high... This is the time of the year that he is busy at his regular job but winter is dead time for him so that's when he worked on mine...

Homer,
Just curious...what were the signs that the transom was rotting out? How old is the boat? Just wondering if this is a common occurance, and what to look for.
Thanks,
DW

I noticed a crack in the aluminum at the back of the boat (caused by the motor flexing the transom) when putting the boat away after a trip and could see the rotted wood. Here's a couple of pictures of what it looked like before I got it fixed:

The boat was a '93. The guy that fixed it said that it looked like the rotting had started at the area where the motor was bolted on.

Damn ! That's some scary stuff. Looked like it would have peeled you open if had got caught out in some rough stuff with that. Mind sharing who you had repair her and what "ballpark" they charged you ?

I had Mike's Marine in Monroe do it. Cost of the transom replacement itself was $1200, plus a couple hundred dollars each subbed out to have the 115HP outboard pulled and the inner/outer aluminum walls welded and plate replaced.
Mike did a good job and, best of all, turned it around it a little over a week so I can keep fishing this fall. His web site is:

and my boat repair is shown at:

Thanks for the pictures! It looks like they did a nice job, and hopefully you will be good to go for many years.
