Ok guys I just sold my motorcycle and my other boat and I HAVE MONEY TO SPEND. But I have to stretch the dollar. My buddy has this boat and I have been in it a number of times. I like it but could I find a better deal for the dollar?????

I know that some of you live for this kind of stuff so PLEASE help. PLEASE

I’m looking for some thing that I can take out my new layout (UFO) in out in lake Erie. In addition, I like to carp shoot, walleye fish and I’ll been looking into a mud devil next year. Therefore, I only want a tiller drive. I do like the looks of the center seat for the family. I also like the idea of getting a wide bottom width so that it will be stable and will be better in the skinny water.

Shoot I just don’t know…and ideas as to where to shop? I live downriver and would be willing to travel.

Skinny water guys need a tunnel hull with a jack plate. Look at the alumacraft tunnel hulls .My buddy put together an 18 1/2' with a jackplate and tiller steer. In hindsight he wishes he had gone with the console. I love telling him "I told you so". ;) It's a great boat, and big enough for the big open water too.

Keep looking....

Remember, Overloading is one of the largest sources for accidents on the water (at least for Duck Hunters)

With that said, I believe that boat is going to be a little small for tending a layout rig with 2-3 Hunters, Decoys, Fuel and other Equipment.

You fail to mention how your going to transport the layout. Piggyback inside the Mod-V or Towning?

If you planning to layout shoot Erie you are going to want a 16' to 20' Deep-V. With the 18' or 20' being Preferred.

If your going to move forward with the Mod-V I would recommend a set of Wave Wackers, a Bilge Pump and a good Battery. Your gonna get wet and your going to have to bail out that boat.

Layout and Marsh Hunting are at two opposite sides of the spectrum and require different equipment. I am assuming you will have the Mud Motor and a Regular Long Shaft Outboard to swap out when your plan on running the marsh.

Leave the Mud Motor for the marsh and not for tending a layout rig. They have no reverse and with the prop extended further back from the transom boat control in a stiff wind will be nearly impossible.

(Some of the newer surface drive Mud Motor's have reverse. With ProDrive being one of them)

Welded Jons are a better boat in the long run they last 2 to 3 times longer and stay dryer from sem leaks , also some model you can add a side console at a later time . good luck on the finding of a new boat lawn-guy . steve k8vol.

Lawnboy,

Lockemans Marine and Hardware in Detroit.

They are great place to work with and are the best Johnson/Evinrude Mechanics in SE Michigan area.

I just went back today and put the money down for the boat. Down side is that it’s going to take three to four weeks. But it’s what I want the way I want it.

With that being said…David Zammitt is the owner and the one that took care of me. Not the salesmen type of pitch tell you what you want to hear kind of guy. One thing that really stuck out was that he was willing to tell it like it is. As with most products everything has it shortcomings and this boat is no exception. And David had NO problem pointing this out. This is the kind of stuff is that I want to hear along with the good. It’s no doubt a family owned business with the wife and kids working.

All I can say is that with what little experience that I have had so far I’m very pleased. It’s cool to finally find a place that’s more concerned about you and not turning a huge profit. Not a very hard place to find just north of the Detroit waste treatment plant on Jefferson on the east side and before fort Detroit.

Again if you want that small “mom and pop” type of experience this may be the place for you. I found the address if anyone cares. It’s 7630 w. Jefferson Detroit, mi 48209 313-842-0266
