I know that we have all passed our hunter saftey courses, but it never hurts to run through it one more time. Young hunters especially need to train themselves for good saftey habits!
This is advice that I give my kids as well as my dad just before we all seperate on hunting mornings.
1. Before shooting, look beyond your target.
2. Never shoot unless you know where your fellow hunters are. This is especially important in deer drives!
3.After you take your shot, whether you have hit your target or not, check your saftey. You're full of adrenelin, and it's such an easy thing to forget. for each time you take your gun off saftey, check it twice.
4. NEVER put another hunter in your scope. You would be surprised at how many people think that a scope is a good substitute for binoculars.
5. Take your time gutting. The knife is (should be) sharp. No hunting trip should end up in the ER.
Thanks for putting up with me on this one. I just hope and pray that we all have a safe hunt.
Good luck everyone.
