The other day I was out and I ran into a sand bar just idling I got stuck and the only way to get off was with the big motor. Anyhow will this damage the lower unit running it through the sand? Also the water that comes out of the engine stopped flowing, as soon as I noticed this I shut down and cleaned out the hose which was plugged do you think this hurt anything?

As a precaution, I would have the water impeller changed.

Sound advise. Might try flushing the motor too.

I just changed the impellar this spring do you think it should be changed again or should I keep an eye on the stream of water?

Running sand thru is like running a knife thru sand, dulls the knife real fast. In your case, sand would really wear the rubber.

Impellers aren't that expensive but a motor toasted is.

Kinda up to you if you want to watch the pee-stream.

I took the boat out yesterday and noticed a white cloud in the water behind the prop is this just exhaust or could it be somthing more serious it's a 40 horse merc? I raised the motor to check to see if I could feel any oil or smell anything and couldn't. Could it be the seals starting to leak from the sand?
