Im catching all of the Bay area population of possum's in my coon sets and they are really startin to iritate me. I have a variety of sets out and already have my otter limit and a ton of beaver. How is everybody else doing?

Hi TrapperJeff,

I never seem to find an end to those 'Possums. Just keep thinning then egg eating criiters out.
I've got 3 doz or so coon so far. I did get a Badger in a coyote set this year in Charlevoix Co. A few beaver. Not much Rat water in this neck of the woods.

I'll get back at it a soon as the rifles get put away up here. I just don't like running a line when there shootin at every deer in the country. If the snow holds of those coon will stay moving good. Not as many up here as in Southern MI but the average size will run bigger.

Good Luck!

I know what you mean about the opposum, they sure mess up a good dirt set. It always seems that the fox shy away from these sets after taking a opposum.

How are the skunk treating you? I use to cover the cost of all my gas on my long line fox and coyote trapline by putting up all the skunks.

I havent caught skunk one....yet. The beaver are keeping me more busy than ever, just when I think I caught all the adults i'll get another. I also got 7 nuisance beaver from 1 lodge this year.
I dont hit the candids hard until first good ice.

Sounds like you are doing mostly water trapping. The beaver trappering I know from experience is a lot of fun, but also the most work of all the trapping I have done. I use to sell all my beaver at the North Bay, Canada auction and therefore I would stretch them to the Canadian patterns, which if oval and not round.

How do you stretch your beaver? Did you get any supers?

Those grinners are the fastest animal alive aren't they? They'll beat the fastest fox to a fox set... lol. I'm doing ok I guess this season. Tallies are:
1 Red fox, 1 Grey fox, 2 Yotes, 6 beaver, 12 coon, probably around 15 possums, 3 skunks, 2 weasels, 1 rat, and a badger.
Haven't put out any rats or mink sets yet and haven't had any canine traps out since the end of October. Going to get that line going next week again.
