My son recently bought a new sight for his bow that has a blue light in it. He has been concerned that this will scare deer off. A purple light is also available. Can deer see either of these color lights? Don't want to "spook" them!!

Thanks for any information you can give us.

I've wondered the same thing with my green, yellow and red sites. It's not so much the site pin because it's most likely not facing the deer. The part I wonder about is the fiber optic coils that gather the light. They're on the side of the bow and would be visible to the deer if they can see those colors.

Without doing any research, my theory is if hunter orange doesn't spook them, neither will bow sites regardless of color.

I'm sure someone here knows the answer!

The only reason orange doesn't scare them is because they dont see that part of the light spectrum ( I think thats the word), they actually percieve it as brown. However, blue is actually the color they see most. I dont know if the blue on the bow will spook them, but they can see it.

I did a test in a dark room with my sight light on and it did its job of illuminating the fiber optics. While I could see the fiber optic threads, I couldn't see the light color (which is purple). My Cobra Sidewinder Radiant has a shade for the fiber optics, so that will block any light if I have to use my light in low light situations.

The bigger concern would be the glow of the fiber optic threads, rather than the light itself, imo.
