I went to Grand Valley sporting goods last night and noticed their bows are quite a bit higher than the retail prices listed on the manufacturers websites. Anyone else notice this? Do they work with you on prices or what? I'm trying to justify paying above retail.

I was also there last night and I have also noticed they are quite a bit higher on most things. For example, 100gr Slick Tricks at GVSG = $27.95, at Al and Bob's they are $24.95.

We also used to shot 1 hr paper targets for $5.00. Now it went up to $8.00/hr for paper targets :yikes:

I have talked with the owner. I believe his name was Vern. I would ask him and see what he has to say. He is a good guy i am sure he will be fair.

I'm just wondering why they're selling a bow package that they say came straight from manufacturer but has the whisker biscuit removed and replaced with a generic arrow rest. Gander Mountain has the same package with whisker biscuit in tact for the same price. By doing that he should have knocked some off the price or at least been up front about it.

I go there once in a while and even shoot in thier Monday night 3D league and I have noticed this as well... I do not buy much from them if I don't have to... It's sad I know, not to support your local shop, but considering i can drive to some place closer and pay lass and the fact that they are not an archery only shop, I don't feel bad...

Every where... If Dicks has what I need, they are usually the cheapest... Gander MT. is cheaper than GV too... But mostly I buy online... Dicks (formerly Galyans) sold Baby Gorrila tree stands for $35... Gander and others sold them for $60... Hence the reason I have several Baby G's in my arsenal of tree stands...

well for one. it takes awhile to get the feel of local prices and items. they are a new store. and if you know like I do. the more knowledgable a archery shop is. the more the price's wont scare you. thats why if I have a question on a product that I dont know about. I wont ask the staff at Gander Mountain or Dick's. My 3 year old son knows more then those guys. And as for a archery only shop. there are very few in grand rapids. one that is technically a archery only shop.

Prices are not scary... lol... Why pay more than you have to??? Especially when it's $10 or more of a diff... And I do not buy items I have questions on from the box stores... LOL I do my homework first, then go buy what I want specifically... I have bought several things from GVS, but there are some things I will not buy there...

There is no reason to ever pay more than the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). In fact, on many if not most items you pay less than MSRP. Anyone charging more than MSRP is gouging, imo.

Then there's the ethical issue of stripping down a package and offering lesser materials with the package. If infact this is true, I'd never purchase from an outfit that engages in this. You have to wonder what type of expertise you'd receive from someone willing to reduce the value of a bow in order to make more cash.
