I am heading to Manistee Lake Oct.9. I have never been there before and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what will be abundent in the lake at that time and how to fish for them at that time of year. A few of my buddies and I will be out on a 22ft pontoon so we can go anywhere on the lake. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You might want to check the ice fishing forum - that's about the only place I've seen reports. As I recall, someone took some dandy perch out of there last winter. I know there are walleye and pike there as well, but haven't fished it in...30 years

At that time of year most of the salmon will have left the lake for the rivers but the steelhead will be prowling both ends by either river outlet. There are some monsterous large pike in there. The north end by the bullrushes hold lots of them and anywhere along the drops on either the west or east sides hold walleyes..................

There might still be salmon, you'll see em porpoising. Find some holes near current and try jigging weighted spoons. My favorite is a hopkins smoothie or kastmaster. If you get one on you will never forget it. I also second what Wally-eye said. I've done good with jointed rapalas and spinner baits too. Good luck! wait till you see the structure.you won't be bored.
