Has anyone here tried the sonic broadheads? I have shot mechanicals for about 10 years now and while I have never lost a deer with them, I am not too impressed with the penetration I am getting. I would prefer a pass through so I have two holes instead of one. I have wanted to switch to fixed blades for a few years now but do not want to have to re-sight my broadheads like I used to do before I switched to mech's. I heard about the sonic heads at the woods and waters show over the weekend. Everything sounds great, just wanting some real testimonials-good or bad. How close do they shoot to your field points? How is the "on game" performance? Any input is appreciated.

With these heads it all comes down to tuning. You can't just throw them on and expect them to fly right with your field points. I usually tune up several bows a year, and only 1-10 will actually fly perfectly with fixed broadheads after initial tuning with no further adjustments needed. These broadheads were no different.

Field points flew great out to 80 yards, threw on a sonic 100, which actually weighed in at 99.7grains and matched to my field points, and I was shooting 5 inches high and 4 inches left. lowered the rest, and moved it in a little and then walla...good flight.

If you're not getting full pass throughs with mechs then you need to check your equipment to make sure you're generating enough energy and also check your arrow tune.

It's my opinion that perfect arrow flight is even more of a priority for mechs than fixed heads.

GV is right. Broadheads will rarely fly right with field tips (should be very close though). In fact if my bow is out of tune expandables will not even fly with field tips. The problem lies with the hunting head being longer than the actual field point, this changes the dynamic of your arrows. Problems with flight as it relates to field tips and broadheads can usually be traced back to the bow being properly tuned. And of course good shooting form. Broadheads will magnify all problems with equipment and form.

I just bought a pack of the sonic heads 85 grain on Tuesday because my boyfriend heard good marks about them on Mike Avery. So I opened them up last night, shooting very consistently with my field points. I didn't need to adjust anything and I won't adjust anything, everything is working great.
I shoot a Diamond Triumph just got for xmas, pulling around 45-50 pounds with a Mueller red dot scope and an alpine archery drop rest and gold tip pro hunters with blazer vanes. Great setup, and I am very excited to take care of business this season. I highly recommend the sonic heads.
