Anyone know if PSE bows are any good? Trying to decide between a black powder rifle or a bow and we're taking a trip to Cabela's this month and noticed in their mail order catalog they have a bunch of "Cabela's Exclusive" bows that are of the PSE variety. I think the only thing that makes them "exclusive" is the camo. With so many different bows, I don't know where to even start. I know feel is important but when you're talking dozens of options it seems to be quite a lot to take in!

I have shot PSE for 6 years. I love mine, but everyone is different. Try them all before you buy.

First bow I take it Packer?

Do yourself a favor...on the way home from Cabela's pull off 23 in Milan on Carpenter road. Turn right and than the first stop sigh turn right again on Willow road and go about 4-5 miles. Adam's archery is on the right and ask for Diane.

I can't stress how important it is to get setup properly the first time. It can make all the difference in the world. They'll have a bow in your size and in your price range and you will be setup for sucess.

If not there....find a good shop. If there's anything I've learned it's get help from those that are true experts at this stuff.

I gotta agree with Kelly on this one. While PSE is a good bow ( I have had 3 of them over the years) Cabellas will not take the time to properly fit you and set you up like the smaller specialty shop will. Fit and setup are critical to success. If the bow doesn't fit you, you will never shoot with the accuracy that most of us desire.

yes--PSE makes very good bows. I currently shoot an AR34 which is owned by PSE. Great bow with great customer service. Depending on the guy working behind the counter at Cabelas will determine how well they set your bow up---sometimes it's a kid they just trained and sometimes you get a guy that really knows what they are doing---however at a pro-shop odds are you're going to get a bow tech that really knows how to set up a bow for you.

good luck with your decision

PSE makes some quality bows, i have been shooting pse for 15 yrs, they have customer support that is great, but as far as the cabelas exclsives, the only thing that makes them exclusive is the fact that cabelas buys bows from them in quantity, and therefore if you buy 1 of them most other pse dealers wont even touch them as far as getting parts or fixxing a problem, and thats where the exclusive kicks in. say you have a limb crack and the sports shop a mile from your house is a pse dealer, in most cases he wont touch that bow, you will have to go back to cabelas. i know from exsperience as i bought 1 of there walmart exclusive bow deals for my daughter. it was the bow she wanted and even though cabelas had the exact same setup as walmart it was a 5 mile drive instead of a couple hours. now also btw the cabelas and walmart exclusives are the same thing. anyway the bow she bought had a bad
limb pocket and the bow made all sorts of noise and finally the limb bolt stripped out, so i took it to the pse dealer in hesperia as i have been doing business with them for a while now and they are always eager to make customers happy, well they told me i needed to take the bow back to walmart or pse as it was a bow sold to walmart and that it was there job to make things right, so i called pse and i let them know that i was pissed and customer service told me the same thing since it was a walmart or cabelas exclusive that those stores needed to deal with it, and not just a local dealer, if i can find the letter that pse sent me i will post it as well..
but now the good part since it was a pse bow the company had me ship it bacvk to them ( they paid shipping) and they sent me a brand new bow to replace it and just to keep me satisfied they also ent me a dozen arrows and as well a new site and quiver for my bow. plus a $150 off my next pse bow.if i where you i would do as other said go to a regular bow shop and shoot a few different bows. find one that feels good and you are comfortable shooting.you will spend a little more but it will be worth it. as far as pse they have some awesome bows.

I have had 4 pse bows in one year each had a problem and that is why I switched to a Darton mag ext. This is the best bow I have ever shot! It shoots about 315 FPS at 70# draw weight with a 32" axel to axel. Yes pse backs there bows but I wanted a bow that did not need to be replaced or fixed for a long time..

bought an 04 mach 12 earlier this year. The paint started falling off the riser on opening weekend. Bow shot great but cust service was crap. They gave me lots of crap and didnt want to replace the riser. They blamed me for spraying mosquito dope on it and ruining the finish. Wanted me to send it to them opening week so that they could "check it". Luckily I was at the best shop around who took care of me and set me up with a new bow. An Avalanche.

i sold pse bows for seven years, yes some bows are going to have problems but overall i think they have some of the best quality bows on the market. like everything else the guy behind the counter can make or break you.

as far as the cabela's exclusive bows, pse found that they could sell older risers and limb combo's to cabela's. most of the exclusive models are made up off models that pse doesn't offer anymore. in 2000 when pse did away with the baby g's they found that they could sell cabela's the left over limbs combined with a different riser.

Packer I see your from Grand Rapids. Go with the bow for obviously a longer season and better hunting. On your way to Cabelas you can also stop off the highway in Jackson and schupbachs sporting goods is on pearl street. They have excellent deals on bowtech, mathews, and hoyt right now and have Excellent staff on hand to get you set up right and properly. Cabelas is great but you are just a number in the archery dept. If you check it out ask for Gordy, a very good bow mechanic. http://www.schupbachs.com/ Hope this helps :)

This thread was from September. :) Since then, I bought a Bowtech Tomkat from Al and Bob's in town here. It's the one bow that felt right from start to finish for me. Thanks for the feedback.

Most shops that carry bows nowadays carry bows that have been streamlined by companies as very good products. So buying a bow is similiar to buying a bike. You have to sit on it or hold it draw back, see how it feels in the palm of your hand etc. Once you find a bow that is the length, weight, and feel comfortable to you ask the salesman what size bow you would need in this bow. He then can measure your draw length etc. and make sure the arrows and bow match you.

Thanks for the previous posting about buying bows at large discount stores. I have never heard that before. I will be more leary in the future.
