What do most of you guys use? I have always used 4in straight vanes and have had good luck with that. I shoot about 64lbs and I shoot a 2213 XX75 arrow at 25in long. I also shoot a release.
One other question, I had to buy my son a new bow because he out grew his bow from last year. The bow came with 3 arrows that had 4in vanes and then I wanted 3 more and the guy sold me 3 with 3in vanes. I'm gonna refletch them so they are all the same, should i go with 3in or 4in. Hes shooting 40lbs with carbon arrows and 85 grain tips. Are straight fletch ok for his aroows? He also shoots a release. Thanks!!

i have been shooting carbons for the last 5 yrs, and when i switched over to them i also went to a 4 inch feather, straight fletched my setup isa pse nova
shooting 70# with 29 inch draw length. i had a bodoodle rest and a sniper
adjustable site with a single meprolite pin, 2 weeks ago i switched to a whisker biscuit rest and i couldnt be more impressed my groupings got better
and im getting better flight out of my pse carbon force 400's,
but last weekend i went to the 3-d course in hesperia and another guy there
had a couple of pse carbon force 400's fletched with 4 blazer vanes he let me
shoot with 2 of his arrows and i couldnt believe the improvement on groupings
so that is how im going this year. right now im waiting patiently for ups to deliver my wraps and blazer vanes as every local shop i called said they where out of them so i ordered them right from bohning, already have my arrows stripped and ready for the new fletchings :D

This question can be answered by what works best for YOU!! I personally use 4" vanes but am in the process of testing the 2" Blazers. Haven't seen much of a difference but I'd say the Blazers have a slight edge at the moment because I shoot a Whisker Biscuit and there is less vane dfamage with the Blazers.
As for your son,I'd recommend the 3" just because of the low poundage. There will be less resistance therefore less speed drop. Just my 2 cents here.

been shooting 5 inch helicle since 1963. guess its just what i think an arrow should look like. probably wouldn't matter what i used in reality.

I spray crested and fletched up some GT 55/75 Hunters with Blazer vanes . They seem to fly good with my setup .

I generally shoot 5 inch, straight-fletched feathers. Awhile I mistakenly purchased 4 inch feathers to refletch my own arrows. I can shoot these interchangeably with field tips or broadheads out to 40-50 yards or so. I would say go with what you have the most of in fletching for your son. Three or four inch should be fine, but 4 inch would be more forgiving. <----<<<
Since they are fletched already why don't you have him try them both and see if you notice any difference? Just a thought.
I've been shooting 4in straight vanes. Thats what I used on my old bow so I kinda just stuck with them. One of these days I should do some experimenting again, but for this season since I'm already set up this way I think I'll just stick it out.
Good luck this season. Hope you guys get some!

Hey thanks guys!! He's been shooting both arrows and there isnt much difference between the 3 and 4 inch. I didnt know if shooting the 4in with his 85 grain thunderheads would help the flight better then the 3inch.

Feathers fly better but are less durable.
I use feathers if the weather is clear but if it is going to rain I have some vanes fletched up as well.
With the new drop away rest i have gone back to helical because they spin faster and you don't have to worry about arrow clearance away from your rest.
