View Full Version : For Everybody With A Drop Away Rest

It seems to me that anybody who's anybody is shooting a drop away style rest these days. Sure, you see a few nimrods left with 'old' style prongs or flippers or doodles...but for the most part, we've all gone drop away in one form or another.

Now the question - How many of you have gone to a larger and / or more aggressive fletching array to take advantage of all your new found room in the riser window?

I'm going 90` four feather with a hard right helical, 4" parabolic white wings.

If you haven't, why not? If you have, how'd that work out for you?

Thanks.

I used to go with full helical 4" feathers with my drop away. Broadhead flight was excellent with almost any quality head. Speeds were in the 260's. Currenty I have NAP Quickspins, thought I'd give them a try. Imo, big waste of money. My standard fletched arrows performed just as well...with broadheads too. Once I ruin all of these Quickspins, I'm pretty sure I'll go back to helical feathers though. Honestly, my straight fletched feathers flew perfect in my set up to ???

i"am trying 5" spinwing hunters . they are said to spin an arrow 8 times faster than helical feathers! they are just as light as feathers and waterproof. i like how they group but i shoot rocket sidewinders so i can't tell you how they do with std. broadheads

I actually wrapped and refletched my carbon express aroows last night. I went to a 4" fletching. They seem to fly very true.

After hearing many rave reviews on other archery forums, I am going to try 2" Blazers too.

Grouping in a 4" circle at 20 yards. Figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)

I shoot three fingers with a tab.
The rest is a prong style.
I have been standing along side of guys in archery shops shooting with all of the fancy rests and releases when either the string loop breaks, or the tension wasn't set properly on their release and WOW! Arrows flying in all directions, I packed up my stuff
and thought I will stay away from release aids as well.
I feel more comfortable with my God given fingers any day.

I'm in on that Game boys ;) Bring yer checkbook...Dollar a yard and I don't take American Express

Alpha...I did initially. I shot snuffers with 2512's and a MEGA hellical(hand laid) with a 5" feather. Just short of a flu flu :p Woked great but lost energy downrange a lot quicker.

I did the "Bigger is better" 2 years ago. And the "Smaller the Better" last year. This season I've split the difference.

Funny though....That was the beauty of the drop a couple years ago was to be able to shoot a BIG flecth with no worries....now everyones using Blazers and Mini fletch stuff

I'm not bragging.................merely saying the old stuff is just as effective as whatever new fangled gadgets you guys just have to have everyyear.

6 arrows in a 4" circle, completly fills the circle. Any tighter and arrows start getting ruined.

I have to say I have always shot a hard helical with all of my rest would not shoot an arrow that does not have one. I started off with a plundger style rest shoots arrows very well then switch to a scoop style drop away rest did not like put the plunger rest back on it. When I bought my new bowtech last spring I had the Trophy ridge drop zone put on it love the rest. But I would have to say that the plunger style rest are very reliable and do not cost alot of money.

....and I thought I was the only nimrod left around these parts. I shoot fingers (bare handed), a Silent Solution rest, aluminum arrows, and no peep. My broadheads fly like field points out to 50 yards. Last week my group at 20 yard was so tight I busted the knocks off of two arrows (in the bulls-eye) with the third shot. "If it aint broke..." I concur ;) <----<<<

Thanks for the replies.

I'll have to look into those spin wing hunters...never heard of them, but that doesn't mean too much.

I think it's ironic that the 'hot new products' are micro sized dart stabilizers. Never tried 'em. I figure the 1.57 FPS I would gain just isn't worth having look at those goofy things. I'll admit it...I like sexy arrows.

I also like having enough friction on the tail end to know that almost anything I screw on the front, within reason, will be muscled on to the target.

Yes, QuickSpins continue to be an expensive, questionable option. I've tried them.

All of my arrows are hunting arrows, so I like to make them easy to see in flight and during low light.

THANK YOU, Sir, for resurecting a thread that has been dead for a week to take a shot at me.

Although, I'm not exactly certain what it is that preturbs you so.

You quote me in your reply, but your retort has absolutely nothing to do with my statement of observation regarding an industry trend. I never said anything about being right or wrong as it pertains to selection of equipment. I made no judgement of others based upon what was being shared in the thread.

I don't give a warm pee about what you use to hunt. But since you offered up that you are indeed using a flipper, well then I guess you're not even qualified to answer the original question posed in this thread.

As for your comment re:shooting your Onieda instinctive - good for you. What did you think I was gonna say? More importantly, why would I care? Why did you become defensive when you realized that you fell into one of the two categories of sports I merely acknowledged in my original post? Did you feel...'less than' or under attack? Why?

Psychologists call it "projection." Whether you choose to believe it or not, you actually have yourself convinced that you are 'better' than the next guy because you chose to do it your way, but avoid otherwise stating so outright because of social repercussions. Rather, it is expressed in telling and unsolicited comments like "I like My launcher and BTW I shoot my Onieda instinctive too." Your second sentence is the personal justification and shield. People by their nature are compelled to self justification.

Your time is up. Get off my couch and out of my office.

Px - Go shoot your bow, stop hijacking threads. And remember...relax - it's just the internet.

How can you say that when you called anyone who use a rest other than a drop away a nimrod. Sure sounds like your passing judgement to me

Definition of a Nimrod

Webster's Dictionary

1.) a descendant of Ham represented in the Old Testament book of Genesis as a mighty hunter and a king of Shinar
2.) hunter

Ergo, collectively we are all nimrods. It is not a derogatory comment. Quite the contrary, I would think that most on this board would consider it is to be a compliment....if ignorance didn't stand in the way.

KalamazooKid even posted a link on page 2 for those who were not enlightened as to the meaning of this word. You have a computer. You have access to Google. There is no excuse for ignorance through lazininess. Only the guilty need feel that way.

I cannot assume any responsibility if the reader's vocabulary is less than cosmopolitan, or if their reading comprehension skills are a product of the public school system.

Rather than take the time to jump on me for "name calling", how about taking the time to learn a new word? (that's a rhetorical question...look it up)

Lovingly yours,

Not A Bubba

It's kind of embarrasing that we can't even talk about something as simple and un-controvisal as an arrow rest without looking like a bunch of little kids arguing in a playground,,,,,,,,,,,
