I just bought a Deep Vee 16.5 Sea Nymph Fishing machine with a 9.9 Mercury. It says it will handle a 60 hp. I was wondering what type of water and waves can I expect this boat to handle? I figure on taking it out on mostly inland lakes but would like to get it out on erie or such for perch and eyes when I can. Thought I should be safe on days saying 1-2's but when will this boat not handle it should I get caught out. Any one use these have any experiance with them?

I had a 16' Sea Nymph for several years. Had a 25hp Johnson on it. Wonderful boat. The boat itself will handle more water/waves than I could. I don't enjoy being out and having to hang on to the boat to keep my footing, not worth it to me. I don't care how good the fishing is. Anyway, the boat will be comfortable for you I would think in 1/2's, even 3's perhaps. It ALL depends on the Captain of the vessel of course. You have to know how to utilize/control a craft in those types of waters to make it safe and enjoyable. Very well built boats. YOU decide what's safe and enjoyable for you and the crew. Safety first always. Know your limits !!! ;)

My Sea Nymph is a 16.5 Fishing Machine from 1987 I think. I had it out on Lake Michigan in three footers with the occasional 4-5 footer :tdo12: . This was too rough for me to be comfortable, but the boat did OK. My boat would be fine in two footers.
It has been a great boat for me, very versitile and compared to the 14 ft that i used to have it is very stable. Get a VHF radio if you plan on hitting big water.
The 9.9 seems a little small for that boat. Does it move you around adequately? Mine is also rated for a 60hp, but I've got a 40hp Suzuki. My 40hp will go 40mph at WOT with just me in it, which is plenty fast as far as I'm concerned.
