Went out for Muskie this morning. We did not fish long. We had 0 hits.
But the oddest thing happen out there. While we were fishing from 10:00 till 11:00, we witnessed over 30 muskie jumping. Well, I thought they were muskie. Very large fish. All over 3 ft in length. They were different fish too. cause we would see them on one side of the boat, then the other.
We were off Metro in 19 FOW.

That was my close second thought.
But the fish looks more brown then gray.
Where exactly is the sturgeon hole in the lake?

The sturgeon hole is right by the mouth of the Detroit river on the Canadian side of Peche island.

Mike - I'd almost bet the farm what you were seeing were Sturgeon. We have been watching them all summer from Huron Pte to the Thames. We have had two or three nearly land on the boards, and have snagged a few also.
Look for the bowtie under their head next time. Its a dead give away. The front fins point straight out to the sides, and look like a bowtie. Also, they seem to almost always appear straight up from the water, then fall over like a cut tree. Muskies tend to jump more like bass, and thrash a bit. Probably 90% of the sturgeon come up straight and fall over.

maybe they were the asian carp??
Actually, I have seen them before too. I think they are sturgeon also. Was going about 50 in my buddies bass boat and one jumped about 5 feet or so in front of us. Thought it was gonna make it in the boat...scary!

I've seen an unusually large number of big fish jumping all over the St. Clair River this year. I was concerned that they may be snakeheads since I've never seen so many fish jumping. I have since gotten a really good look at several of the fish and they were all Sturgeon, some of them really big. Wonder why there are so many this year?

Is it true that the fish (muskie and Sturg.) jump like that to get the sea lice and lamprays off them? I heard that's why the salmon will surface...shaking off the sea lice.

I have a feeling that those were carp you saw jumping....
maybe sturgeon, but I've never seen a sturgeon jump out there, and have witnessed the exact same scenario - and they were carp.

Absolutely 100% sure they were Sturgeon, some jumped close enough to the boat that I got splashed.

These are sturgeon jumping. They've been jumpin' most of summer in North Channel by the ferry. DNR has been out in evenings/night studying size and population. Apparantly the population is good, but most are small, < 5 years old. They're concerned about lack of old/big sturgeon. I've never caught one, but they sure are a tease when they jump right next to the boat.
