Me,My wife Christy and Ryan from the site fished out north of the bridge bottom bouncing with crawler harnesses sunday night and we caught 7-8 between us 2 men.My wife had one which got off but she had fun anyways. This was our 1st time out this year and my wifes 1st time ever fishing out in the lake from a boat.Orange harnesses seem to work pretty well with most fish 15 inches or larger.Still some what confused on where the lake starts and seperates from the river. We did have a major scare out there when a freighter came up from the river and under the bridge and out into the lake almost running us over.Usualy they blow the horn 3 times or something to warn you but this one didnt.I was turned around looking out into the lake trying to get free from a snag.I seen a light shining from behind me and seen the freighter.Me having a calm nature at the time I said to Ryan that theres a freighter.Hes thinking because of how calm I said it that its down river further or something.I said to him again with a little firmer voice this freighter is coming at us and he finaly decides oh better get out of the way :help: .At this point the frieghter a 1000+ Edgar B Speers is about maybe a 100yds or less coming up full steam. If you never seen one of these giant ships up close and personal dont do it the way we did :yikes:None us could believe how quiet these massive ships are when steaming out into the lake. All in all though a pretty fun experience with glass like conditions out in the lake and beautiful night for star gazing and fishing. We marked tons of fish out there also from the bridge up towards the canal. Many of them large marks on the graph but who knows what they were.Found some very interesting bottom structures and a very deep hole just south of the paper mill but north of the platform where the flag monument is thats 70 feet deep.Hope to be able to get there again very soon but this time without any near misses with freighters :yikes:
