Finally got a chance to take Shoeman up on his floating offer and hit the pond with him and Knockoff. SInce I've been tagged with the name "baitdunker" I figured I'd leave the live stuff at home and swing the bubble float in front of a popper. A cream and green colored popper with some flash produced some fish, but most lacked size. In the last hour of light I switched over to a bass bait and started working the surface. While I was reeling it in, covered with weeds, a large musky or pike exploded on the surface next to the boat. I wont type the words I said when the SOB scared the crap out of me. Finally I had a good taker and brought a 1 1/2 - 2 pound bass to the boat. Nothong better than seeing the explosion on the surface and getting the hook set on a healthy fish.

Overall a great evening to be on the water. As many of you know, Ralf and John are top shelf people (even though they're flydunkers) and I always look forward to the next time I get to fish with them. Thanks Ralf!!!

Pretty wild!

Good to see you again. Too bad the fishing wasn't up to par. We might have to start hitting Paul's haunts to the north ;) This recent cold snap and off-shore winds created a different scenerio.

Damn shame to be outfished by a guy using a chartreuse bubble float. What an awesome collection of antique poppers!!!

Sure hope your dinner wasn't as cold as the beer :p

If you guys can tear yourselves away from those gills, with these cooler water temps, the smallies will be on the lookout for some deerhair poppers any time now. :)

Hey Ralf..........The sunken barge after dark this fall. I know it's a bit further than you want to run, but trust me on this. Waldo will be under the lights waiting for a green/silver flashaboo streamer.:)

I've got to figure out how to get a GPS recording devise on ESOX's boat.

Guys' got more hot spots than Carter has liver pills. :dizzy:

Ralf I gotta believe that one of those streamers I has experimenting with that were based on your idea would be killer for this kind of fishing.

Steve,

In the last month those annoying floating weeds are making it a chore to fish anything subsurface. We've played around some of the deeper structures (boulder fields) with sinking lines and got some of the smallies going, but finding any concentrations within the reach of those lines has been tough. Sure is a blast when it does happen :)

I just ordered a real a real spiny 8wt for bass and bonefish. It's gonna make short work of the larger offerings.

I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of your latest creation!

As far as tracking Paul - One can always pull up a milking stool. He's quite generous with his spots. I've just been too lazy to chase him around.
