we dont have the whole story....we can only go by what my sister in law told us..we were out of town and couldnt get back for 2 days ...but the vet said it could have been the heat...could have been a heart attack...the vet said without doing a autopsy he couldnt say for sure..but i cant believe it was the heat..the yard is 3 acres fenced we keep 3 5 gal buckets of water in different locations so the dogs can drink at will..plenty of shade and they had acess to get inside if they wanted....just cant say...my wife thinks it is because we left her alone for the longest period of time since we had her and she stressed out...(the vet said that is possible but that dakota didnt show any sighs of beeing that type of personality-and he has been our vet since the day we brought her home-she got a check up every 3 months and we did everything the vet recommended..)
hard to say..
I just hope she is in heaven chasen a slow squrille....lol

I would get that autopsy done...
Something doesnt smell right.. I couldnt let it go until I knew.. A death is sad enough.. A death at only 2 years old when he just had a checkup as healthy just rings the wrong bells with me.
If you have a bad neighbor you need to find out. Even if it is not something that evil and unknown to you, there is something bad on your property, you need to find out.
Either way, I just could not let it go. How could you prevent it from happening again if you dont have the answers to the first one?
I wish you all the best.. Our hearts go out to you and your family for your loss.

my wife and i had almost the same conversation...but either one of us could dig her up..we already got the stuff and my daughter made a marker in the back yard...neighbors are great..they loved her too...we have nothing she could have gotten into...my father inlaw has a 11 year old red bone and that dog has not ever had a problem on the property...i agree it is hard not knowing for sure and if it had happend while we were home i would have had no problem paying the 140.00 autopsy fee to find out..but for now we are just going to let her lay....

Sorry to hear about your loss. I don't know your location but I will call the breeder we got ours from (pics in gallery) and see if they may have some pups in the near future. They are in the southern thumb area.

Mikie,
Sorry about your loss. These 4 legged creatures grow on you. There is no replacement for a good dog, but a new one can ease the pain. I know!

I know exactly how you feel. Our 11 year old male died suddenly last week after my In-laws stopped over. Hershey ( Yep Chocolate) was all excited and hopping about looking for his pats and ear scratches then collapsed and died. We never saw it coming. He was the best dog I have ever owned and will dearly be missed.
This is the first time I have been able to post about it.
Again sorry for your loss and hope you get your new dog soon. My 7 year old son is allergic to pet dander so we are debating about another. I figure soon we will have one as the companionship is far greater and the allergy not too bad. Sniffles when we don't dust, vacuum about every third day.

You might want to look into the a electronic air cleaner. We have a Lab and a cat...I started to noticed ever increasing amount of dust (or dander). So I ended up buying a couple Oreck XL Air Cleaner & Ionizer and just love them. My wife's dusting has been decreased from twice a week to a week and half. You wouldn't believe all the micro-particles it picks up.
Hope this helps...no house is home without a dog.

My wife just ran across some 6 week un-papered pups where the owner was asking $150.00. They had a brown female and some yellows. I don't have the numer here and my wife is out but I will try to post asap(if she still has it). The pups were off Inkster road and Pennsylvania or Eurka. Sign is posted out front. We are looking for a brown male.
The Pt. Moulie Duck Show is this weekend at the Point Moullie (I don't know the correcet spelling) sate game area in Rockwood/brownstown. I'm sure pups will be there also.
Chad, Thanks for the tip. We tried one of the electronic cleaners but the wife and kid did not like the ozone odor it gave off. We do have a Hepa air cleaner in his room and I switched the blower on the furnace to run 24/7 as it also goes through the furnace filters.

Don't buy pups without papers and health checks unless you want a dog that may not be able to hunt or even walk. For $150 you may be setting yourself up for thousands in vet bills or a lot o heartache. My best freind got a great deal on a $50 black lab that had hip diplaysia so severe by the time it was two that it couldn't walk around the block. For the last four years its spent it's days in the back yard eating and craping.

Good point on the hips Barry.
Myself the lab is for the wife and son for a house dog, not for hunting so I am not worried if the parents were good hunters. Yes the hip is a good point and our last lab was papered but didn't mean much as he was fixed at a early age and never intended to breed him. The heath check issue is valid itself as one doesn't know how the pups are really taken care of.

Mikie,
The labs are on Inkster road between Pennsylvania and Eureka (closer to Eureka). They have a cardboard sign out front that says lab puppies. When I called, they said they had two chocolate females, one yellow female, and a yellow male. They hadn't had their shots yet. Their dad was a chocolate and their mom a yellow (or vice versa). They were 6 weeks old this past Wednesday. She's asking $150 each. My wife got rid of the phone number but we will try to get it again.
Yellerdog informed me tonight that a farm on Tipton highway has a sign out about labs pups. I'm calling coyotes with himin the morning and will try to swing by and check them, and or get their number.

The Woods-Water Fair is being held this weekend in Imlay City. I was there tonight but I don't remember if there were any chocolates in the puppy tent. If there were maybe someone on the forum saw them and checked into them some.

You may want to check into getting that ductwork cleaned if you were experiencing that much dust. Also change them filters on a more frequent basis. Electronic air cleaners are nice but are only as effective if they are clean. The more they build up, the less effective. Most salesman in the business will tout their 98% efficiency. Well that's only true the moment you start it up. After that it is steadily declining because of buildup. HEPA is the best way to go!!

I made contact wioth Eric and we picked up one of his male yesterday. He had four and we really had a hard time choosing one. The pup was a pleasure to have in the house last night. The only time it whinned was to go outside and do it's duty. Today has been the same thing.
Eric and his wife were great to work with.
Thanks
