Mike,
I wouldn't let you have it if I had the disposable income. I would pay quite a bit more for this bit of fun.
Enjoy!

Yep, winner declared at 11:00, so the last bid on or before 10:59 counts.
Of course, you'll have to declare it yourself. I forgot to sleep yesterday, so I gotta fit that in today!

Enjoy your hunt with birdhunter. I had one with him last year and had a great time. I would encourage you to go on Sept 1st. as they do get very gun shy very quickly and the later you go the harder the shooting becomes. PS make sure you spend a lot of time on shotgun practice in the next couple of weeks.
Congrats Mike, and thank you for your donation :)
I'm sure barbara will be contacting you soon

Thanks for your support Mike, and Don is correct that they get gunshy in a
hurry. I've been down to quite a few of the fields and they are in prime condition. As good as last year. Hoping to get back down in the next week or so, since the fields will start to be mowed, and the doves should be congregating. You can contact me at brdhntr (brdhntr@tds.net), and we can go from there. I will be down there from Sept 1-5 so you can choose any date in there that works into your schedule.

I sort of know the area, too, at least, I've been there, and even four days into the season there was still birds and still shooting to be had-it was real warm, but a whole lot of fun-I just love dove hunting...I'll be in touch for details, brdhunter.
It will also be a great story...

That is the way it is most years. Last year, we had phenomenal shooting the first two days. After that it was an all day event just to down a couple birds. I put a lot of miles in checking fields and trying to find birds. They just vacated the area. The previous year, we were taking limits off the fields well into the second week when I switched over to huting grouse up north.
now.......If I can only convince Linda to insert "avid Michigan-Sportman" for every reference to the above LUCKY hunter in her story ???!!!
what'ya say L.G. ??? :yikes:

in my email to you-only if you PROMISE me you'll be there!!! ;)
Of course I'll do my best, always do when I get information from a website like this, but the problem is, I am only the writer, and the editor may decide that mention of something like that comprises free advertising...and then he'll edit it out.
I'm going to make that difficult for them, tho, by basing the story around an auction held to benefit the future of Michigan's dove hunting on a popular statewide outdoor website...I'll do my best.
Was this auction only advertised on this site or on others, too? If so, that will make it tough...
I'll be targeting our regional Traverse City Record Eagle for this piece, with second publications in Michigan Outdoor Times and Midwest Outdoors...
See you soon, really looking forward to it-I was headed down to Pickeral this year anyway, but to hunt with you and get a great story like this is icing on the cake.
:)

You should get credit for those birds! They weren't exactly the most cooperative in the decoying. Lots of long shots by all. Have to say that Saturday and Sunday were much better. Saturday, had the birds literally sitting on the decoys. Monday, we had a young hawk come in and try to snag the Mojo. He landed in the middle of the decoys and looked at the Mojo for about 10 minutes, jumping up to try and grab it every so often. Had him totally confused. We were laughing so hard that we missed a big flock of doves that came in right over our heads.
Had a great time with Mike, and everyone else. Glad it worked out well. Didn't have the numbers as last year's opener, but the action was steady all 5 days we were down there. On Saturday, I turned in a bunch of wings to the ODNR for their survey. Our birds put them over their quota for the study. They were pretty happy to see them. Most of the hunters did much poorer than us. By Satruday, there were no hunters on any of the fields.
Emailed the pics off to brdhntr and Linda today. If one of you (or another helpfull "volunteer" ?) could post them here for me it would be deeply appreciated. I never get them to actually post in a way that does them justice.
(Note: went north to the trailer yesterday and awoke this am to the sound of about a dozen doves perched on the roof and cooing !! Not sure if it was a coincidence or......the filming of "The Birds II"
lessee.....doves....grouse camp pending...more doves ? AKKKK :dizzy:
