Bought a house in Flushing last summer. Took my wifes little brothers out fishing on the Flint river last weekend, it's the first time I've mosied down there, allthough the water seemed really low and weedy, we fished from the bank and caught thirteen nice smallies. I would say the largest which was caught be the youngest at 8 years old was around five pounds. What a good time watching him reel that hawg in. But what they really love is catching catfish, which we do up at our cabin in AuGres. I was wondering if anyone has any luck pulling cat's outta the river, and can you eat fish out of the Flint, it looked a little dirty to me. Also I seen a couple monster carp swim by, and I love catching them. Anybody fish it for carp, anyone looking for a carp fishing partner. Seeing none of my buddies fish and the two little guys really don't have the patience for that type of fishing yet.

Years back we use to fish for carp :fish: We fished down town Flint right behind the old Chevorlet building .I believe it was off Kearsley st. There are cement banks along the river there. We use to take our Steelhead rods and catch them what a Blast !! They stack up there in the river like cord wood .. Been years sense i've done that but sure they are still in there ..

Hey, first time poster here, hope this works. Looking at the river in many areas around Flushing you would think you are in northern michigan. The smallmouth fishing can be excellent, the walleye run before the spring closure can be very satisfing, and given the fact it dumps into Lake Huron via the Saginaw River, you can expect just about anything that swims in the great lakes. HOWEVER, I urge you (especially with children) that you take certain precautions fishing the Flint. #1- Because of serious sewage runoff problems i highly recomend NOT having anything that contacts the river get in your mouth. That includes such things as biting your line, eating after touching fish or the water, ect. I fish the river frequently by canoe and i can assure you in certain areas of the river(low water/heavy weeds touching the surface) that the sewage problem is very real.#2- This river was absolutely pummeled by industrial pollution by General Motors and other types of automotive industries for years. There have been times when i have fished say a slow shallow pool and after kicking up the muck, a very obnoxious smelling "slick" will start flowing by on the surface. Such a shame. Now, for your ? concerning carp, do u flyfish? If you do, use any kind of small crayfish or leach pattern. I have tried to target them but those peky bass always get in the wayand they are SO spooky. And cats? Yes they are there, I would not recomend crawlers because the little bass like to suck'em down quick and you will end up letting go little gut hooked bass which i am pretty sure wont live long. to be cont.

One bait i have had success with for cats is some stinky shrimp or cut bait. I really like to use those circle hooks and highly recomend them as mr. whiskers dont get hook's in the belly. I just find deeper run or pool and let the bait slide down and wait for pull. Remember to not "set" the hook like normally would and just real untill you feel the fish, the fish seem to hook themselves and are easy to release with the hook smack dab in the corner of the mouth. Good Luck fishing and good job getting the future of our sport on the river! Bye the way, this is a great site!
