Black Lake is probably most noted for it's sturgeon population. Every winter there is a lottery for spearing the monsters. There were also a few nice muskies taken last winter as well.

During open water, most target walleye, pike, and bass. There are good numbers of rock bass and some perch as well.

For walleye, I would suggest targeting the south end of lake. There are some really good drop-offs to deeper water just west of Onaway State Park. With the water temps reaching their all time high for the year, the best numbers of fish are bound to be in the deeper water, especially during the light of day.

Good luck. If you get into them, please send me a pm. I've got a tournament there in September. ;)

I spent the last 4 days up at Black Lake. Went out 3 times in the evenings. All total was 3 pike, one Bass (smallmouth) and 2 small perch. Locals say that the fishing has been near dead for several weeks. Drop offs are all over that lake, lots of shallow water near shore, and in many places 200-300 yards from shore, so be careful. Water temp was 80 according to my flasher. Its a big lake, and having only a few hours each night to fish, made it that much more difficult to pattern.

Good Luck
