I should feel honored to have receive this 1373 page Hard Bound Cabela's Special Edition Catalog, and in a way I do. But I'm thinking the Monetary spending qualifications to be picked to receive this special edition, would make me sick if I knew the exact cost in merchandise I paid over the years for the honor. And I'm thinking I'd qualify for the Gold Watch if Bass Pro ever does anything like this. :tdo12: :yikes: :p

So, has anyone else received this Special Honor, and has anybody else's wives figured out why? :tdo12: :help:

It must be a random selection from their mailing list. I didn't spend much at all with them the past few years and still got one.

Now if they were looking at lifetime expenditures.........

Yeah those things are cool. This has been brought up a few times in other forums and I believe the general consensus is that it's not completely based on sales, but rather more random.

A couple of my buddies have gotten them and I know for a fact I've stopped into Dundee and whipped out my Cabelas card much more than they have. Not that I'm proud of it......just bitter

Although like you mentioned about the wife, if I got one of those things she'd probably freak out on me.

Your obviously new to Capt. Dan posts. I take pictures of everything I post about. Actually, I just always got an "A" in show and tell, and inwardly doubt any story without an accompaning picture.

Does the special hardbound edition have a fishing section or is it identical to the master catalog just hardcover?

I love flipping through the fall master catalogs and everything, drooling over the cool hunting stuff, but my one beef is the lack of fishing items, specifically ice fishing stuff. It would be nice to open up the catalog to that section and highlight a few things as a not too subtle hint to the wife for possible christmas presents. :)

Got mine a few weeks back. Just makes you realize exactly HOW MUCH MONEY that company is making :yikes: to be able to send these things out instead of a regular soft catalog.

If it has to do with how much money you spend, then mine should have solid platinum covers, gold pages and hand delivered by the one of the Cabela family members!

I've been getting these now for over a couple of years.
I really think they are too expensive to just randomly sample with.
More likely that their marketing guys have developed an ideal profile of those that receive them.
They went Public awhile back, and I purchased a block of their stock shortly afterward. the stock went up for awhile, then retreated, and now appears stalled. Longer term, I think they are a good investment within their industry, primarily because of their customer satisfaction guarantee, and their very efficient distribution system.
As they expand into additional niches within their growing customer base,I would expect their net earnings to follow suit.

You're exactly right - there isn't anything random about their mailings.

Cabela's is a very sophisticated direct mail organization. If you receive one of these catalogs there's a reason why, just as there's a reason why if you don't.
