Did any of you do any good out there today (Saturday)? Took my daughter out...and it was ROUGH. Trolled and caught little ones. She needs fishing action, so we changed and drifted crawlers...lots of action...all sheepshead. Say what you will, when you daughter grabs a rod and the reel is screaming because a 24 inch sheepshead is on the other end...it is pretty cool. Still, no keeper walleyes to report. :help:

Went out from 2pm until dark. One throw back, 3 sheep and a white perch. Marked tons of fish but no takers. Tried spoons, reef runners and hot n tots after a favorable radio report. Weeds were bad for trolling. Switched to drifting meat rigs and got the sheep.

I did hear better reports of perch at the ramp but most were tight lipped about locations.

We boated a ton of shorts in 20-23' off Stoney on Thursday. Only had 1 sheep and 1 white in the catch. Biggest was 14 1/2". Spoons and tots, no color preference. Fished from 7:30-9:30pm. Had boat trouble on the way in, ended up getting a tow in. Appears that the safety switch that makes sure the boat is in neutral is shot.

We heard a radio report of some fish being taken on hot n tots but couldn't get anything going on them. Anyone have a good speed for tots that has been taking fish? We tried from 1.8 to 2.8 mph but nothing. It didn't help that the plugs were fouling with weeds almost as soon as you put them in the water.

Try putting a snap weight clip a few feet in front of the lure, or even a large split shot sinker. The weeds will fall down the line and catch on those and the lure will stay clear and still run good.

Reference the speed on Tot's...I usually run 1.9 to 2.1 and have fairly good luck on them.

Thanks.... we ran a weight on the small tot and didn't seem to help with the weeds there. We were inside the bay then and the waves had settled some letting the weeds build into those big 'nests' in there. If we were deeper at the time I don't think the problem would have been so bad but weren't having any luck out there and tried up closer.

I think my next trip will be in search of perch.

Sunday the "SOD FARM" was rediculous in Brest Bay. We ended up over 10 miles out of brest bay between middle and west sister islands to get into some semi clear water, but still had problems with weeds. We caught a lot of shorts out there, but only put 3 in the box. By far, our worst day of the year....I like Gunrods idea of the perchin on the next trip out....We will be in Wheatley this weekend (thurs-Sun) going after some bullets and "pickeral"....Then hopefully off to Ludington to go after the Big boys.
