View Full Version : JCOC Dove Dinner, Sue Tabor/Dixie Dave 9/9

There will be a fundraising dinner at Jackson County Outdoor Club on 9/9, from 6-9:00 pm. All funds will go towards the very expensive fight against the dove ban.

Former State Representative Sue Tabor will be the guest speaker and food will be provided by wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar, featured on Mike Avery's Outdoor Magazine television show (www.dixiedave.com).

Tickets are as follows:

Meal Ticket: $25

Sponsor Ticket: $60 includes 1/8 page ad in program.
Business Sponsorship: includes 6 of meal tickets and:
1/8 page ad, $220
1/4 page ad, $250
1/2 page ad, $275
Full page ad, $350

Ad only: 1/8 page $40, 1/4 page $70, 1/2 page $115, full page $200.

As this is a registered political committee, no gambling is allowed, so raffle tickets for anything beyond very small items at the meal itself are not allowed, so the only real means of raising funds is to sell tickets and ads, and through donations.

This is going to be an incredibly expensive fight, since HSUS is pouring money into the state..hundreds of thousands of dollars already. Even those who don't hunt doves need to join this..because if HSUS succeeds with this, they're going to keep going.

Thanks Barbara for all your hard work for us hunters I appreciate it.

Deputy, I don't know about other people, but trying to shame me into donating money to any cause will have the opposite effect.

Less than 200 people have even looked at it yet. If it were me, I would give it some time before I started passing judgement on other sportsmen.

Thanks, Frank..and the others who have donated and/or bought a ticket.

Steve wasn't trying to make anyone feel guilty. He was stating a fact. There's usually too few people working on projects..this and any other I've ever been involved in. Then the people working on them get tired and discouraged and stop working. If we all pitch in a bit, no one gets overloaded.

I'am not trying to do Shame anyone into anything! i support and i will continue to support. i do it cause i care period, and it really doesnt take much, and if some sports person cant find time or a few bucks to give then oh well but when a person who doesnt hunt does more work then those that do it is a shame!

what have a lot of us done to supoport our hunting rights and fight for them? me i donate time, money , meat, whatever it takes. but i help.
i give to raffles and suport anyway i can even if it 5 bucks but i help.

Yep, he does that for sure.

Steve raised almost all the funds for the kids day we had this year by himself. Almost 40 kids got to spend the day shooting and eating and watching exhibits because he cared enough to put his time and money behind something he believed in.

He's definitely earned some griping rights. :)

to those that havent shame on you!

I never said you didn't help sporting causes nor did I dis you. I just pointed out what you said and gave my opinion. If you now want to say your weren't shaming anybody, there is nothing I can do, but that's what you said so that's how I took it.

I say thanks to anyone who gives of themselves to help a good cause. It is always a few who do all the work and that's just the way it is. When you decide to work for something good, do it for autruistic reasons and don't cry about what the other guy does because if you do, you will just be disappointed.

I bet I can scrap up 25 bucks by then.

Money is tight but I'll do what I can.

I did buy 4 dove tags last year although I didn't hunt I sure would like to.

I did, and will donate to any group that is going to help get the word out and orginize to help win this vote. I can scrounge up $20 to fight for something I believe in. Thanks to all involved!

Funny, people will post here on a $2000 PC..but can't find $10-$20 to donate because they are strapped .... shame on you....

Just joking...no one should feel guilty...do what you can, nothing else.

If those of us would just put the $2.00 into the fight that we would have spent on a dove "stamp", it would be all good! :D

Let's get started. ;)

Thank you very much to everyone who donated, especially the person who donated the dove hunt!

I'd like very much to attend. I figured I'd send what it would cost me in gas! If the gas prices keep rising, I'll have to make another contribution. ;)

Sounds like a good time!

Bumping because I forgot to link to this in the thread where I asked for some venison donations.

If anyone wants to come, we'd like to get a count by Friday for the caterer..so, even if you want tickets, let me know, ok?

Barbara

Thought I'd give this a bump. There have been some changes, as your own Kelly Johnson will be doing the cooking for this but it'll be a good time, with all proceeds going towards stopping the ban on dove hunting.

A big thanks to everyone who donated meat and prizes. :)

Hope you all have a good time!

I'm going, and I have a Chevy Venture that will seat 5 additional people. Will be the designated driver, leaving from Canton, first come first serve.

Well, I'll definitely be there!

I'm not especially vain, but I gotta say: Fat and bloated with grey skin is not my usual look. It's new but temporary.

Those of you who already know me better not argue with that, either. :)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to it. :)

I just want to thank Kelly Johnson for a superb job at creating some of the most delicious dishes I have ever tasted. (The caribou was fantastic......I even took a LARGE "doggy bag" home. :D )
Also thanks to all who put this event together.
A special thanks to excellent speakers Pam Colletta, Rep. Rick Baxter and especially Sue Tabor.
(We need more like her in our legislature!!!! "Senator Tabor")
I hope we can keep the momentum going to educate ALL hunters of the importance of supporting Michigan Dove hunting, which is under a fierce (and heavily funded) attack by national groups such as the U.S. Humane Society, which has become nothing more than a front group determined to ban ALL forms of hunting.

Let's hang together to preserve our hunting rights......ALL of them!

(Hell.....I'm not even a hunter, either, but I understand the importance of supporting Michigan hunters and the financial and conservational support they bring to our state.)
