from what i can tell, it has nothing to do with being good to become
a pro these days, and it has everything to do with having enough
money to support a lifestyle of not working and fishing everyday.

If you find out the secret, please let me know. I'm still waiting for the Professional Bluegill Tour to get up and running so I no longer have spend my days trapped inside a cube.

From what I've been told, it depends on how you enter a tourney sometimes:

Amature Fee = $200/boat = grand prize of snoopy fishing kit
Pro Fee = $600/boat = grand prize of $10,000 and snoopy fishing kit

It does not matter how good you are, you have to sell yourself. In other words you must be a king butt kisser.

Well, it's right that you must have money. Nowwhat kind of pro fishing are you talking about? For bass, the best way is to fish the federtion until oyu become good enough. Either way, you do have to kiss some @$$ and have money.

How about learning how to catch the fish species (consistently) that you are going to become "Pro" for. Entering (and placing) as many tourneys (local / amatuer) that you possibly can so your name becomes very familiar. Entering and placing in as many Pro/Ams as possible so your name is further familiar so now you may even think about approaching local businesses for sponsoring dollars / goods. Once you begin the Pro/Am stuff, and placing, you need to be involved in as many sanctioned events as possible to qualify turning Pro. Good luck. It ain't easy, but it can be done !
