A 27-year-old Brighton man was killed early Saturday morning when the boat he was sitting on was struck by another boat on Zukey Lake, according to Hamburg Township Police.

Two others were hospitalized with non- life-threatening injuries and there were several other minor injuries, police said.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m., according to people who assisted with the crash.

One person who helped in the boat recovery efforts said the crash involved a speedboat hitting a pontoon boat and another boat.

It happened on the water in the vicinity of the Zukey Lake Tavern, according to a woman who answered the phone there.

But she said it had "nothing to do with'' the tavern and declined to say more.

He hit a parked boat? I have a go fast boat but it's used for tourney fishing. If I see anything that makes me think it might be to close for comfort, I slow down and try to stay as far away as possible. Especially the jet skiers. You never now what the hell they are going to pull.

It's too bad. Was the speed boat on plane? Was the driver of the speed boat the one who was killed?

the report reads..."the boat he was sitting on, hit by another".....so i reckon, as usual..the perpetrator is alive and some innocent fellow is dead..ashame.. :(

Is 1 A.M. a typo, did they mean 1 P.M. ??????? If, 1 A.M. then a definate negligent homoside, if no manslaughter charge.

Did the parked pontoon boat have lights? Were they on? What about the boat that hit them? Obviously a parked pontoon at 1 AM means booze was involved..... The time is not a typo, the search team used lights according to the article.
Booze and boating are bad enough....throw it all together and mix in the dark and this is what happens.

Swamp, I have seen enough of your posts on this site that I know you don’t mean "Obviously", but instead "probably"

Lights would be a good question. Even if booze was on the pontoon, they were not under power, so from that side of the equation it is irrelevant. What triggered my question about a time type (i didn't read the article, just what is posted here) is High rate of speed. You do not boat at a high rate of speed at 1:00 A.M., that would be negligent.

Guy that works with me lives on the Lake and the accident happened right in front of the small marina he keeps his boat at;

The pontoon was tied to two other boats on a sand bar coming out of what is called "Devil's Basin", that is a narrow channel that connects two Lakes, this is a NO WAKE aone

The 18yr driving the speed boat was intoxicated, speeding in a no wake zone when he slammed into the pontoon, basically jumping it, taking out the rack on the ski boat next to the pontoon and then proceeded to hit yet another boat..the girl on the last boat is still in critical condition...from what he heard they are going after the kid driving the boat big time..

The young man who died was a family friend of my barber. From what I have heard it was at 1 in the morning and alchohol was involved. What a tradgedy that so many lives are now in ruins because of something so preventable. :( :mad:

allright,i live on the lake & was out there talking to the cops at 3:30A.M. when they finally found the guy that died. 2 boats were tied up on the sand bar, a pontoon with lights on & a ski boat with lights off. the pontoon lights were not very bright. the sand bar is acrossed the lake from the marina in the middle of the lake. it is not in a no wake zone. but the kid that hit the 2 boats did come out of devils basin very fast which is a no wake zone. he circled the lake real fast & was gunna scare what he thought was just a pontoon boat when he hit the ski boat. that was very stupid and unfortunate, the kid has been in trouble for drinking before, bad parents kept letting him take the boat out anyways :confused: what skocked me was the cops said this chain of lakes does not have a no wake after sunset law, so anybody can run around at night on plane. that is stupid as all get out!!! my daughter has been on the boat that got hit & knows most of them. and she thanked me for setting her curfew at 10:00 after seeing all this go down.the cops need to get out there on the weekends after dark and start givin out some tickets,or this is gunna happen again.they go out every weekend but they split at 6:00 6:30 every night :confused: i used to like to sit out there on my boat and jig after dark but i had 1 too many close calls. if i didnt have the spot light i would have got blasted at least 1 time myself. :yikes: that is what i know about the accident. the hamburg cops are not saying much about it for some reason :mad:
