Just finished flocking 1/2 doz Flamdeau judges. My lungs are full of nylon flocking material, and I'm just plain sick of flocking geese. If anyone wants to try this I would recommend doing two dekes per night. Better yet, If your flambeaus don't look like GHG. Go buy the dang GHG and save yourself the trouble.
Those flams sure look sexy now though.

Excuse my stupidity, but what is flocking?

Flocking is a fine nylonlike powder that you can apply to decoys usually goose dekes. In my case I used black flocking on the heads and tails of my judges to eliminate glare. Flocking looks extremely real also. Flocking is what is on the heads of Greenhead Gear goose full bodies and shells.
I never tried it until last night and it is messy to apply.

Next time I'll definitely wear one. That's for sure! Nylon does not look to be very body fluid soluble. :tdo12:

Flocking is also the material found on the upside of most airmattresses......kinda reminds me of a short felt like material.......

I'm just ignorant, why would you go to all that trouble and cost? I kill plenty of ducks and geese and I just use flat black and flat white paint. I think any bird that get so close he can tell the difference is dead by then, or I'm going to let land and fly away later. Now don't get me wrong maybe this is something I should look into. I have only been doing it my way for 56 years and its always worked well but you never know when something new might be better. Then again I can only kill my limit and they all seem to like the flat paint so ???????
It just seems like a lot of flocking trouble to me.

Eyecatcher,
I thought the same thing. Just another gimmick I thought until I hunted over my buddies spread. All his bigfoot heads were flocked and so were his bobble head. WOW! I was impressed. Made the spread look 100 times better. Give it 5 years everything will be flocked.

I was thinking the same thing while I was inhaling flocking, Maybe all this look exactly like the real thing is just all hype, kinda like camoflage. My decoys look better but surely do not look like the real thing. I would truly like to fly over some decoy spreads at about 30 yards and see what a difference flocking Vs. unflocked Vs. silhouettes vs. fullbodies actually makes. I've had geese work pretty good to a bunch of crapy plywood cutouts. When you hunt the managed areas it seems like calling is what makes the biggest difference. I might have some access to a parachute plane if I can pull the right strings. Maybe someone here that is not affiliated with a decoy company can chime in and give some insight.

it does make the decoys look 100x better, just i noticed after one season it was all wore off(well for the most part). and every time you grabbed a head your hand would be black from the flocking. it comes off easy. and from being bumped around a little in the boat the heads would ware a little
