This event sponsored by Jay's Sporting Goods has become our annual tournament on Sanford Lake. The fishing was very good in 2004 and we expect nothing less in 2005. This event is open to the public.

HMMMMM. Still havent ever fished Sanford.

aah u'd enjoy sanford paul..when u tire of chasin the skis.theres plenty of slop filled with bass and the carp rival st clairs!

Sanford Shootout – Rules
1. All contestants will be required to sign a liability waiver. Contestants must be of at least eighteen years of age OR fish with a parent or legal guardian.
2. The entry fee will be $50.00 per Team.
3. A Team shall consist of one (1) or two (2) persons and there may be no more than one (1) team per boat. Contestants fishing alone on the team's behalf shall be considered as a "Team" by payment of a full team entry.
4. TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION shall take place at Sanford Lake Park (Midland County Park) between 6:00 am and 6:45 am. The park will be open at 5:30 am to launch boats.
5. All Teams participating in the Sanford Shootout MUST allow inspection of their boat. All tournament boats MUST pass boat and livewell inspection Sanford Lake Park (Midland County Park)
6. Tournament hours shall be 7 am to 3 pm. There shall be no fishing of any kind before the start of the event. MMA Tournament Committee reserves the right to alter daily start and finish times due to severe weather conditions and any unforeseen circumstances.
7. Tournament boundaries shall be specified at the mandatory pre tournament rules meeting.
8. All fishing and boating rules, regulations and licensing in effect in the State where the Event is being held shall apply and be adhered to by all Event participants. It is the contestant’s responsibility to know the rules and regulations of the State and body of water they are fishing.
9. Only one (1) fishing line AND one (1) lure per contestant is allowed in the water at any one time, or 2 lines with 1 lure each per team for someone fishing alone as a team.
10. Neither live nor dead natural bait shall be permitted.
11. Motor trolling shall be allowed. Contestants using such methods shall maintain a minimum distance of one hundred (100) feet from all other boats. If a caster can reach any trolling boat with a cast, the trolling boat's path is too close. Conversely, contestants that are employing casting techniques may not motor in and cut off some fellow contestants trolling paths closer than two hundred (200) feet. Consideration of your fellow contestant is the primary concern.
12. When running big motors above trolling speed, all contestants must wear Personal Flotation Device (PFD).
13. Failure of any team to comply with any tournament rule, or Michigan watercraft law, may result in team disqualification and forfeiture of the event entry fee.
14. Contestants shall conduct themselves in a sportsmanship-like manner at all times, especially when fishing near another boat or contestants.
15. All rules potentially have "loopholes". It is the intention of Michigan Muskie Alliance to conduct a fair, honest and fun event. "Common sense" and "spirit of the rule" shall apply at all times.
16. Michigan Muskie Alliance Tournament Committee shall make all determinations on rule clarification and breaking of ties. All rulings by the tournament committee shall be final.
Tournament Scoring
4 (Four) points for a 30 (thirty) inch fish. 1 (one) additional point for each 1/4 (one-quarter) inch over 30 (thirty) inches. Any measurement falling “between” 1/4 inch marks shall be “rounded down.”
Once a musky is caught, keep the fish in the water in the net. DO NOT put a fish on the floor of your boat. There shall be no further fishing by either team member, until the fish is witnessed, and the release completed. Measurement may be taken with the fish’s tail “pinched.” The fish shall be handled by the contestants. The measurement must be witnessed by two people, one of those must not be on the team that caught the fish.
Any team that refuses to witness the measurement of another team will be immediately disqualified.
Transportation of fish is not allowed. Any team that transports a fish will be immediately disqualified.

It is each contestant's responsibility to read and understand all of the rules and regulations. The printed copy of our rules will always be considered the OFFICIAL RULES and will supercede all other versions.
