I haven't fished for perch in years and wanted to give it a try out of Lake Michigan most likely South Haven (although I haven't heard to many good reports lately). I'm just looking for some info on setup that will catch perch.
As of right now I was probably going to try fishing a drop shot rig with a #10 hook, tied directly to the line, about 12" off the bottom. I don't know if I can get wigglers now, so I might have to use minnows which I've never used before. How should I hook them? I was thinking just hook them through the lower jaw and out the nose.
I have 8# test line on my rod. I've read that I should use 2-4#. Would that make a big difference?
For locating perch, I'll just try the different packs of boats and hopefully get on fish. Is there anything I can look for to locate fish? (Bottom structure, water temp, etc) How long should I try an area before moving on?
Any other info or advice would be greatly appreciated. You can PM me if necessary.
Thanks.
