Well i thought i'd try this today so i did and here's the story:
I was on a dock at about 12-15 FOW, I was trying somthing new today and that was, catch small gill cut the belly open and let the guts hang, hook him up so he hangs upside down and put him about 4' down under a bobber... Well i throw it out there and it sits there......well an hour later i get a call from my dad to come home to eat fish ;) ... Well i pack up my rods and stuff and turn around to reel in the rod with the blugill on it and i couldnt see the bobber and i just figured it got lost under the dock but nooo.... So i jerked it lightly (mistake 1) and started reeling it in...FISH ON! It gave a good fight... Well i got it up to the dock and then let up when i went to grab it and it took off (mistake 2, wasnt quick enough) well it started to roll and then went under the dock then the tension goes low and alls i have at the end of my line is a dead gill with no more guts and teeth marks..... :rant: Wow i was happy :rant: . I had my tantrum and said some things i shouldnt have to make a family stare at me. Thing was is that i didnt know what the fish was witch explains the "It". Well when i went to get it, it rolled so alls i seen was the white belly.
Here's a description of the the fish.. Was about 16" or more had a big head and was fat... My first thought was walleye, cuse they been said to have been caught were i was fishing.. but it also could of been a pike... The fight wasnt bad, fish went down in the weeds and sat there and made me pull em' out of it... The bobber went dowm w/o a traise, it just disapeared.. Anythoughs on the fish??? The gill i used was about 4"-4 1/2". Yes i know pike maybe, but the shape was different this fish was wider and long???
Well any wat anyone else fish like this??Anytips? i think i'll try it agin more often seeing that the thrill of the fight was worth the wait... Well it was an expeirence!... I'll try my approach on catching the fish a different way next time... Maybe a net would be good (mistake 3)..
