What is the oddest / most unexpected fish you have caught in michigan??

I have 2 long eared sunfish in my fish tank (I will post pictures tommorow) that I caught in hillsdale county.

I know people who have caught chain and grass pickeral but I have not.

For me, I'd have to say gar. I've caught a few of those long nose fellas and each time it was very much a suprise.

Those long eared sunfish are cool looking. Have they been doing well in your aquarium? I tried putting a couple small pumpkinseeds in mine last summer but they didn't make it. What do you feed them?

for me it was the dogfish. I didn't know what I had. I thought I caught some reclusive prehistoric lungfish. I had never seen one before. My girl friend at the time ran to the bow of the boat and screamed get it away from me. it was hilarious.

They do not get big 5'' is a good sized one.

I had not seen one in michigan before but I have seen them futher south.

Definitely a soft-shell turtle. I was fishing for carp, I was only 10 and the thing almost pulled me in. After that, definitely a dog fish. Or what about the perch that jumped into my boat?

I did not realize long ears never got bigger than 5". Caught a few this year no more than 4" long. I would have to say I was surprised to catch a smallmouth while targeting trout.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT THE WIERDEST FISH I HAVE CAUGHT WAS A DWARF LARGEMOUTH BASS. A FISH YOU WOULD HAVE TO SEE TO BELIEVE, IT WAS ACTUALLY FAT BUT THE BODY LOOKED LIKE SOMEONE SQUEEZED HIM TOGETHER. I CAUGHT HIM IN A SMALL POND AND PUT HIM BACK IN TO SURPRISE ANOTHER FISHERMAN.

I caught a nearly 10 lb dogfish and an 8 lb catfish in the same night.... less than an hour apart. That was kinda wierd.s Damn dogfish actually "barked" at me when we pulled him in the boat. Made it even more wierd!

i caught a hybrid bluegill/largemouth in my pond a few years back, so that is the oddest.

But out of public waters, I would have to say stone cats. never even knew they existed til i caught em.
