Just got back from the Marina after one very wet and wild day on the Bay. It went from 1 to 3 foot chop this morning to dead calm, back to "War of the Worlds" thunder, rain and lightening strikes. We caught as many or more fish than we did yesterday using my same crazy program of Squid Wiggle Discs. But this time the reason I don't really like fishing with meat, reared it's ugly head. Instead of catching 90% large fish and all walleyes, the little trash fish meat steelers and the 14" walleyes were out in force. Today I went through 4 dozen crawlers as fast as I could continually bait and let them out. If we went fishless for more than 10 minutes all the Squids were cleaned as slick as a whistle. Ended up with only three nice fish by 12:30, when the biggest of the passing storms told Capt: Dan to get the Hell off the Bay. :yikes:

Dan,guess I'm glad I went home last night.Got the boat cleaned for the next round, the Bay has been the saving grace for me this year as Erie has been bad for the two reasons mentioned above.I swear we caught 50 undersized fish yesterday 1sheep and 2 pretty large cats but at least we had 9 keepers which is alot better than my buds did on Erie. Hope to see you next weekend....Jimmy

Jimmy.

You definetly picked a good year to buy a boat and start fishing the Bay. If this was last year, you might not be making that 100 mile trip here so often. I heard through the grapevine that many of the DNR walleye ponds were a disaster this year, because of the early/intense heat. I'll reserve qualifying this information as here-say until I get the pond report for the season, but it was the hot years in the past, that caused lac of oxygen, that caused high mortality in the ponds, so it does make sense. Hopefully, we had another good natural reproduction in the rivers to negate any losses we suffered in the ponds.
