I took a couple guys out on the bay for a day of walleye fishing. We launched out of Gambil's and headed out to some numbers that a good friend of mine fished during the PWT tourney, he finished 15 during the 1 day event and had a pertty good pattern going so I figured we would give it a try.
We were into the fish right away and had good action until the bay got really flat. We then moved to his second location and found a lot of suspended fish about 10-12 foot down. We caught nice fish in both locations with 6 fish going over 25" and the biggest at 28". We ended up with 15 in the box and realesed as many smaller fish. We fished from 8am till 3pm.
I run crawler harnnesses all day behind 1oz. in-line weights. Chart beads w/gold blade, purple and pink beads w/copper blade and blue and green beads w/cheap sunglasses blade were the rigs we pulled all day.
We seamed to take most of our nicer fish on the deeper rigs.
Is anyone here planning on fishing the AuGres-Sims walleye tourney out of AuGres on July 30? I think as long as the weather looks good I am going to fish it.

Good Fishing

Tim

I don't plan on entering until the night before if the weather looks good. I will probaly have my 8 year old son with me and I am not going to go out if it is going to be rough.
I hope to fish a couple days prior to the tourney also. I haven't even been up to AuGres yet this year.

Good Luck and Good Fishing

How many boats did they have in the tourney last year and how many places did they pay out?
I got the flyer in the mail and it said 1200.00 for 1st and 500.00 for big fish as long as they got 75 boats.

The DAY PRIOR to the tournament there was some nice rollers out there last year - probly 5-6 footers - that just maybe might have deterred a few families from entering. But I think there was still 120+ boats that put their money into the hat. I know they paid to 20th place or so and everyone that bothered to show up to the weigh-in got some sort of door prize.
It's a fun event that's been going on since the late 80's when it used to be run out of Northport Marina. Low stress/low entry fee fun event - except for the usual few rude hot heads that get beer muscles

this is the same day as a big $$ tourny is going out of Hoyles - maybe some of those high stress types will be fishing that one instead !
