Well, I'm finally getting into a groove. Reeds Lake was fantastic this morning. I caught 3 pike (the largest of which was 30"), many undersized bass, and lots of perch and panfish. The pike came on a Jointed Rapala, a Smithwick Rogue, and a five inch bass (intentional). There was another, however, that cheated me today. I was casting the Rogue, and the line became tangled around one of the trebles. Thinking it was no longer functional, I began reeling in the lure quickly. Just then, a very large pike scared the crap out of me, leaping a full body length out of the water, and engulfing the lure. I fought it for a while, and it came within inches of net range. But of course, this fish had other ideas. It came quickly towards the boat, and popped out the hook, even having the nerve to stay there, a foot from the boat, taunting me. I'm almost positive that fish was pushing 40". Nonetheless, an excellent morning of fishing.

Sounds like a great morning! Were you fishing in the shallows? The one that got away sounds like a monster!

We fished the whole northwest corner, and most fish came in about five feet of water. The larger ones were caught east of the lily pads where the bottom slopes to about fifteen feet. The 'gills were a bit harder to find today. The water seemed unusually cloudy.

That's kind of where I figured you were. I've got a fishing outing with my softball team in a few weeks and I've more or less been designated "guide" for the trip. :dizzy: Problem is that although I fish it through the ice all the time, I haven't fished Reeds out of a boat in years. I'm looking forward to it!!

Hey Sid, Remember About The Spot Where I Told You I Was Gettin The Big Bass? Way Up In Those Pads? Maybe That Will Help You To Boat Some Of Those Biguns. Good Luck!

Sid,
Remeber where we used to wade fish for them back in High School? I don't know how much weed cover you have right now but if it is not too thick I am sure there are some nice fish up in that area.

Oh I remember alright. The only problem is that as I got older, I developed a godawful fear of snakes! :yikes: Actually, I fished there earlier this year and got into a few nice gills. You'd be surprised at how little has changed over there. EGR has done an awesome job of keeping it nice and natural back there. Other than a nice new walkway and a platform/dock for fishing, you'd be really hard-pressed to see any difference right now from when we were kids.
As for the fishing, right now it's kind of choked-up with algae, but I think I'm going to give it a try for some gills soon. I'll post after I go.
Take care...Dennis
