This topic may have been covered in a different thread, but here goes. I have only fished with leeches once, but my brother-in-law swears by them, so I am going to give them a try this weekend. My question is , how do I rig them? On a small jig head? or plain hook? Do you hook them through the sucker or the tail?
Thanks

OK arrow this is how I do it. If you are jigging them use a small jig head and stick them through the tail, that way they will still have the natural swimming action. I also bottom bounce with them ALOT. I tie my own harnesses so I usually tie the hooks close together so as to not get a belly on them. (bulge of line between the first and second hook)When using harnesses I rig them with the fat part (tail) to the second hook. Almost without exception on the waters that I fish the leeches will outfish the crawlers whether they are being pulled with harnesses or just jigging with them. I don't know what waters you are fishing, and of course there are exceptions to every rule, but I have had more success using leeches and harnesses than any other 2 presentations combined.

Good luck, and May the Force be with You.

Read an article in Feild & Stream this afternoon while waiting in the doctors office and it showed a leech rig using a bell or bottom bouncing sinker, about a 4ft leader of low vis line with a single hook on it. The funny thing they did was cover the leader with that dryfly stuff that keeps the fly on top of the water. I'm not a fly fisherman and can't remember what they called the stuff in the article but, the idea is the leech stays up off the bottom a foot or two and appears to be swimming naturally.
