Woke up bright and early today (4:30 am) and decided...lets take a day off work and try the new boat out on the Det. River for a few eyes.....got things ready...left house approx. 5:10 am....boat all hooked up...noticed no running lights on trailer??? I figured..I am going through the Grosse pointes ( my employer) no problem...at least brake lights and turn signals work!!....I continue on my excursion....while thinking of nice 3lb. walleyes flopping in my cooler filled with ice...and make it to st. Jeans ramp......Gates locked ?? another car pulls up with a boat...says he was just at another ramp and that it was also closed??? A person from the neighboring boat yard pulls up and says....Ramps are closed because of Fireworks !!! So I said to myself #!^&!*&**^#$@ :bash: So instead of a vacation day of walleye fishing.....I am off to pick up 5 steps and do some brick work all day instead :( Ah well....at least the intentions were good!! .......Stll need to figure out why no running lights!

That is about the most painful thing I have ever heard. Too bad they didn't cancel the firworks like they were threatening.

I did a little testing and I have a short somewhere in the brown wire....should have the wire at work, so I believe weather permitting ...I will just bring it home and re-wire the whole trailer and put new lights on it also...just to eliminate any problems in the near future!!

Rewiring the trailer is the way to go. Use your existing wire to pull your new wire thru the frame if it is concealed in the tubular sections.
What dumb luck regarding your maiden voyage! See ya this weekend....

I have been putting in at Alter for 20 years and, knock on wood, have never had a single negative incident. Actually, I prefer Alter's dock and the old Tommy's (now Fisherman's Marina) sells bait and tackle right there. My boat is small enough to sneak out the northern outlet there and I am right on the river or at the mouth of the lake. The ramp fee is only $5 for my boat, a little more for yours. I can understand someone having some reservations about the area, but to give up fishing on a spontaneous day off, hmmmm, that doesn't add up for me, Kev! lol
PS We put in at Alter rd last night at 9:15 PM to watch the works. We had no wait time getting in OR out and we were out of the water and on the road at 11:10.
