Anyone here able to strip the annodizing off of a aluminum bow riser and possibly paint it for me? Want satin or flat black finish. Can anyone help?

Hey buddy, finding those services might be difficult. There are several dipping companies that will strip down your bow and dip it nicely with any type of finish you want, but as for a matte black or flat black, that might be something you'll be able to accomplish yourself. Take apart the bow and find a good automotive place that does custom painting and what not. They'll have the sand blasting equipment as well as the right type of paint that will work on aluminum, not to mention a good primer as well.

Or...something else to look into is going to a gunsmith that does refinishing, as they do a lot of guns in a matte/flat black finish, they couldn't probably do that to a bow riser. I'm pretty sure that this process involves baking so to speak.

Hope you find something.

Local place that does media blasting and powder coating. They are going to bead blast the riser for me to strip the annodizing. I may paint myself or have them powder coat, have not decided yet, I am going to look at my color options tomorrow.

Grouse, you must show us pics!! I like the matte or black satin finished risor idea! Are you going to cutomize the limb color as well or do you have some factory colors in mind? Cam colors? What bow by the way?
Sorry for all the quesions, but this sounds like one cool project!

SHould be ready Tuesday and I should have the assembly done Friday. Its a bowtech patriot dually with flat black riser, flat black limb pockets and glossy black limbs and chrome cams. I think! :) Still may be working on some other things. ;)

Grouse hunter, I would opt for the powder coating opt. if I were you, as it is somewhat of a pain to get paint to stick to alum. long term. Thats not to say that it cant be done, I'm sure the paint thats out there today is alot different than the paint I used 10 years ago(dont paint cars anymore), but IMHO I would powder coat, just my 2cents.

Yep, thats what I'm doing. Had trouble deciding what color. THe satin black was nice! But I opted for the Matte black for hunting purposes.

I am going to get my slayr finished too. I just can't decide what colors.

Got the riser back today. Looks sweet!!!
I scratched the crap out of the powder coat installing my shrewd grip. I will have to figure a way to fix it. I have a set of strings coming in, hopefully should be here Friday. Will assemble and post pics.

Kelly, what wheeler did you get?

Yeah its the dually, I am trying to figure out how to paint the limbs. I know it can be done. Just want to do it right. Let me know if you want it powder coated. My guy did a good job and hes reasonable.\

I need some limb color reccomendations. Thinking maybe flat black also, make it real stealthy. I think flat white would be sweet but I want to hunt with it.

For stealth...maybe a drab olive green like a john boat? I also really like Hoyt's new risor color, can't remember the name but it's a flat copper sort of.

Safari...thats the color!

I really like that look.

What about flat black/white zebra striped limbs? Ala Deadly Tedly
Actually I had a T.N. Martin with a similar paint job.

I'd shoot myself with my own bow before I did that.

I got a Mega Raptor for a ridiculous price.

Should be here this weekend.

My airbrush guy has the limb thing worked out. He's got a paint that he mixes that has some latex additive to make it flex and take the shock.

He was going to do a Candy red fade to black on the limbs of the blade with some pin striping down the edges. I thought about "ChefKell" down the limbs but I figured people would make fun of me  ;)

Got it mostly assembled, made some changes, put some allegaince limbs and cams on it and had some custom strings and cables built. I'd post more but I don't have the software on m PC to lower the resolution.

I'd clean up the riser tap outserts back to chrome myself. Just to give a little contrast.

Looks good though...stealthy lookin' sum-biotch.

Yeah, I wasn;t expecting hm to powdercoat those, but I wasn't very clear about not having the threads powder coated. He bead blasted them so getting back to chrome is not real easy. The binary cams are awesome.

Thinking about geting my slayr done, but just don't know what color. The camo is flaking off the riser. I'd like to get something that would contrast the black limbs.
