HELP! iF ANY ONE HAS ANY IDEA OF WHAT MY PROBLEM MIGHT BE PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINION. MY DAUGHTER'S 1994 YAMAHA WAVERUNNER 3 WILL NOT START. IT WILL CRANK AND HAS SPARK. I PULLED THE FUEL LINE AT THE FUEL FILTER AND I HAD GAS FLOW. IF I PUT STARTING FLUID IN IT WILL FIRE THEN DIE. THE MACHINE RAN FINE THE FIRST 3 TIMES THIS YEAR. THEN I ADDED 2 GALLONS OF GAS FROM A 5 GALLON CAN THT WAS IN THE GARAGE ALL YEAR. AFTER I ADDED THE GAS IT WOULD NOT START. IS IT A BAD FUEL PUMP? IS THE CARB CLOGGED? IS IT BAD GAS? ANY OPINION OR ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT. THANK YOU! THE COTTON ROAD KID.

See if you can siphon out the old gas and replace with good, for a start.

You mentioned you pulled the gas line at the filter. Before or after the filter? Maybe the filter is clogged. Try cranking and spray carb cleaner into the carb for a while, then try to get it to fire with starting fluid. Replace the fuel filter and give it a crank. Should start if nothing else is wrong. Have you fiddled with the idle speed or mixture screws lately?
If the above doesn't work, try screwing the mixture screw all the way in, then back it out a half turn. Also turn the idle speed screw all the way out (till there's no tension on it), then turn it back in about 2 turns.

Check the Safty switch pop where the lanyard goes to sound nuts but i had it happen check the wirring from the lanyard kill all the way into the motor might just be a fluke and bad timming with the older gas...check all fuses,,, air clean to

Thanks Guys I'll try all the advice. I'll drain the tank and check the fuel filter. When I pulled the gas line from the filter it was AFTER the filter. It has spark so I do not think it's the kill switch but I'll try anyway. Any more advice is welcome. I'll keep ya informed. Thank You.

Starting fluid is not good if it is a 2 stroke.

clogged carb jet.try to run fresh gas in the tank while you spray carb cleaner and a bit of sea foam in the gas.might loosen the varnish.if it will run on starting fluid sprayed in the air cleaner opening try to spray the carb clean with berryman carb cleaner while it stumbles running on starting fluid. not the best for the engine ,but it may save you from tearing the carb down.it has worked for me on mowers and other small engines.

LEAVE THE CARB ADJUSTMENTS ALONE....... It ran fine the first couple times you used it. Sounds like bad gas.
Had the same thing on a Polaris SL750 that a friend bought for cheap. It did not run and the old owner did not want it any more. Or should I say he did not want to mess with it.
I do not recommend intentionally smelling gas for heath reasons but......
Pop the carb bowls off and smell the contents. If the machine or fuel has been sitting without any fuel treatment (Stabil) the fuel is more than likely bad. You will be able to tell if there is bad fuel just from a quick smell.
Remove the old gas both the tank, carb bowl(s), line and filter. Clean and reinstall the carb bowls, replace the spark plugs, and fuel filter. One everthing is reinstalled and checked fill with fresh premium grade fuel. (Please dispose of the old gas properly)
As long as the jets are not too gummed up you should be able to get it running with just the fresh gas and the plug change.
The old gas had sat so long in my friends machine that it lost so much octane that it just would not ignite. The fresh gas will help and should get you running. I would recommend that you get that carb cleaned to prevent any problems while you are on the water.

yea I'm betting on the gas that sat all year in the garage.
