The pic I promised is on the pole, or will be once approved. I'm not sure how to put a pic in this message area, sorry. Wished I had gotten this guy aged and weighed, but with the warm weather I wanted to get him to the butcher immediately!

I would say he is 2.5 years old.

Congratulations on your first buck!

Tim

He is at least 2 1/2...I would take his head to a DNR location and have it aged (you'll also get a patch).

That is a beautiful buck. Congratulations!

Nice buck! To hard to guess the age without knowing the area, feed supply etc.. Doesnt matter though, cuz he is an excellent first buck! (or second, or third, or fourth.... ;) <----<<<

Congratulations. I would say that appears to be a prototypical 2.5 year old southern Michigan buck.

Wolfgang,

No problem. Here's a short instructional on posting pics.

1. Go to www.hunting-pictures.com and sign up for a free account. Log into your account.

2. On the "Gallery Building Center" page, find the "Upload Graphics" box on the right hand side. Click on "Browse".

3. Find the file on your hard drive or other drive containing the picture you want to post. Click on it and click "Open". Click on "Upload Now". You will be taken to a screen that says "xyz file uploaded successfully." Click on the button "Click here to return to gallery building center"

4. Find the "Your graphics collection" box in the lower right corner. Click on the name of the file you want to post. This will take you to a screen with only that picture.

5. Highlight and Copy the address listed in the address bar. You can just right click on the address and click Copy on the drop down menu that appears, or click and drag to highlight the address, click Edit at the top of the screen, then click Copy.

6. Go to www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum , log in and go to the thread you want to start or reply to. Type whatever you want to say, then at the point you want to insert the picture, click the IMG button above the box you type your post in, erase what appears in the box, and Paste the address you copied from www.hunting-pictures.com Pasting is done similarly to Copying.

7. Type whatever you want after the pic, insert more pics if you want, etc.

8. Preview your post, check it over, then submit it. All done!

Hope this is clear enough to work. Let me know if you have questions here or on email.

Best Regards,
Byron

Nice neck for an October deer! I'll be the first to say he may be a good 3.5 year old. What kind of bow is that, and where did you hit him? <----<<<

From what I've been reading, I think he could be 3.5. I hit him on the right side. Hit him a little high but it was a close shot at a high angle. Think I got the back of the chest cavity. Both lungs were damaged and almost all the blood was in front of the diaphram when I dressed him. The arrow hit a rib bending one of the broad head blades, deflecting the arrow more toward the stomach and liver. The arrow broke off about 1/3 down from the veins. The broad headwas embedded in the body wall close to coming out. My bow is a Jennings Buckmaster- Around 63 lbs draw wieght. Got him on Oct. 3 too!

Wolfgang if you saved the lower jawbone it can still be aged.

Just curious, what have you been reading that makes you think the deer is 3.5 years old?

I read some stuff about looking at the thickness of the neck, looking at body proportions and looking at size of hooves. Also staining of the hocks. He had a lot of stain and older bucks start to rut earlier in the year. I know none of these are truly reliable and I wished I'd saved the head for aging purposes. I didn't think about it at the time cause I was too excited and with the warm weather I wanted him proccessed fast.

BTW Wolfgang, You shoot the same bow that I do. I finally broke down and bought a new bow this year. I love the Buckmaster PWC, and I know I do not have to ask how you like yours.
