Mercury OpitMax

I am looking into getting a new boat but not sure what kind of motor to look for. I have always been a mercury fan but I hear all kinds of horror stories about the new Optimax? Whats wrong with them and have they fixed the problems they've been having with them? Any advice will help. Thanx

the only bad i have heard is spark plugs are a little hi priced like 15.00 per plug . but they are good on fuel and have big power for the weight . steve k8vol. P.S. next door swears by the one his Lund 19' pro. he's said he don't use his kicker most of the time the optimax will run slow to troll with it. And use just as little fuel as a 9.9 hp merc 4 stroke kicker.
