What is the norm? How long does the rest have to be holding the arrow before it drops?

thanx

Just long enough to stabilize the arrow. if you have trouble getting it set up id advise seeking the help of you local pro shop. I swear the drop aways are the only way to go no matter what the WB users say.

WB's tear up the feathers hard! I have an old two pronged shoot through, $19.95 special from Gander and it works okay (at best), but I am also leaning towards the drop away.

How about the trophy taker fall aways? I heard some very good things about them. I know this is like the broadhead debate or the bow brand debate, but I am fishing for some opinions on this topic as well.

As a general rule the rest should be set to raise the last 1.5 to 2" of the draw cycle.

That's a good starting point and most you won't have to touch again. Make sure to do clearance checks though (lipstick or foot powder spray) to eliminate contact completely.

Ray...Trophy Taker rocks.
GKF TKO is a good one. Inexpensive and very versatile.
Trophy Ridge Drop Zone works great.
Copper John Alley Cat is a very simple and solid unit as well....I have one extra if anyone's interested.

Thanks for the info Kelly, I appreciate it! ;) By you telling me that trophy taker ROCKS, I am sold. That's all I needed to hear from someone on the site.

Thanks again for the info.

If your looking for total clearance go with a drop away for best results with fixed broadheads. The WB is not the way to go. If you look at most serious archers/bowhunters who are concerned about broadhead flight with fixed heads you will soon notice a trend and that is some sort of drop away rest. I know Im going to get WB shooters who will argue with me all day long but the proof in in the pudding. Ive noticed alot of guy who shoot WB and boost about their setups shoot mechanical heads so their really isnt any proof of anything there. I can get a mechanical to fly and group off any rest.

If your looking to shoot mechanicals then I wouldnt even bother looking into a drop away since it really isnt going to benefit you like it would with a fixed head set up. Unless you are having issues with a heavy helical but then why would you use a heavy helical. In that case use some Blazer Vanes fletched with a slight offset or even straight and a shoot thru rest like a Quick Tune TM style.

This is a group I shot with fieldpoints and Muzzys from a Whisker Biscuit rest at 30 yards . I need to re-adjust my sight but it's a very tight group for fixed blade BH's . The proof is in the puddin':p

TnRidge,

A guy that I work with target shoots a WB out to 60 yards and groups very well.
He is shooting fixed blades and he loves his WB and will never think about changing.

Thanks,
Pat

I am impressed !!!!!!!!!!!!! ...............

with my new Trophy Taker fall away. I just got a new 2005 Hoyt Vtec and was sighting it in yesterday. And, boy oh boy do I love the bow with that Trophy Taker. The arrow flight is superior!

Thanks for the recommendation Kelly!

Remember the gold ole' days og getting the wrenches out to tune your rest? Not with the Trophy Taker, too easy ! I couldn't believe how easy this thing was to install and tune. They have certainly made arhery much easier over the past decade.

I think I'm going to love this new set up. A LOT!
