Does anyone have a round about price on how much it would cost to realign an outdrive to a motor after a new motor is installed

Just had it done to my 230 Searay... 79 bucks an hour labor!!! The owner before me must have ran aground with the outdrive and I ended up paying the bill after I had the outdrive pulled and the mechanic noticed that the yoke and coupler teeth were badly worn and the alignment was way off. My motor had to be unbolted, realigned and I think I was charged around 500 bucks for that. Had the bellows replaced, throttle cable, trim sending unit replaced and new zinc annodes. About 400 bucks in parts and 1800 in labor :yikes:

Where do you live? I have access to an alignement tool if it's a Mercury drive (alpha or bravo). It's really not that hard, two people makes it even easier. If you have a good relationship with any of the marinas in your area, they might even loan or rent you their alignment tool. It's nothing more than a machined piece of steel that fits into the coupler thru the gimbal bearing.

We use an input shaft for the upper half of the outdrive...Works perfectly and didn't cost us a cent....
