well i was doing some more work on the galaxy today and while i was doing some final sanding on the floor i came across a crack in it. thinking it was just in the fiberglass covering i hit it with the grinder and found that it was actually the wood cracked. after some more grinding it looks as if the previous owner had dropped something heavey in it and cracked the floor pretty good. he then patched it over with regular bondo. after a couple f-bombs i decided to pull the section of the floor up and put in new. heres a pic of the crack that i found.its kinda hard to see but its in the middle of the pic tworads the right side.

heres a pic of the glass ground away exposing the seam of the floor.

and a pic of it after it was all cleaned up. with the stringers being a little soft in spots i decided to cut them back to better wood. i must have looked funny to the neighbors with the chainsaw running inside the boat.

tomorrow the new stringers will be going in and getting glassed over. more updates to come.

the wood is better where its cut off. the stuff i took out was bad along the bottom where the water filtered in from the back of the boat.

Sometimes using a chainsaw on a repair is fun just to see the looks from the neighbors...

...providing you don't over do it. ;)

well there was a little delay in the epoxy getting here so it set me back a few days. the transom has been glassed over, the new floor floor is in and gaps filled, and i got everything sanded down and ready for the final glass work. time permiting i hope to get the final 2 layers of fiberglass cloth down covering the floor and tieing the floor into the sides this weekend. then it will be ready for a final sanding and paint. instead of putting carpet back down the floor is getting non-skid paint instead and the sides will get carpet starting at the top of the side stringers.

heres the new floor after the seams filled and sanded.

the front all sanded and ready for glass and cloth.

heres the drain plug area all filled with glass. once i am done with the final glass work i will drill the new drain hole. you can see the light where the old hole was.

looking fine like the paint over carpet will clean up and dry up much faster plus help keep the boat inside dryer in the long run. keep up the great work and like seeing the posts steve k8vol.
