Scott and I took out a newbie carp shooter Saturday. Rich is a die hard waterfowler, an avid river steelheader, and one of the funniest guys I have ever meet. He was quite entertaining to have on the boat on a slow day. The river is low now, making it difficult to get up river to our better areas, but we did manage to get a few.
All together we put 4 in the boat and lost 3. The water was cloudy and the sky was overcast, making spotting fish difficult. Rich had a knack for spotting fish even ones we didn't see. He said it was his Steelhead spotting eyesight. Now Rich is not only a Newbie bowfisherman, but he has only shot a bow once his whole life. About 10min into our drift, I spotted a small Carp up on a flat by a small runoff creek. I pointed it out to rich, and told him to aim low. He pulled back, shot, and NAILED IT!!! His first shot at his first carp and he got it, talk about beginers luck. Rich got to shoot at a couple more, but shooting was slow. All he said the whole time was.."man, this is great"...he is hooked!!
Speaking of hooked...check out the pic of the carp Scott shot, with a Storm Bomber stuck in its head...bonus fish!!!
I lost a very large carp that ran so hard it pulled my reel upside down and fought long enough to pull free of the arrow. We saw it twice, for sure a master angler...a record ????
No matter how slow the shooting is we always have a great time!!!
